Job Purpose:

The Overlook is a harm reduction, supported housing project run in partnership between the North End Community Health Centre and the Affordable Housing Association of Nova Scotia. Reporting to the Overlook Manager in collaboration with Overlook Assistant Manager, these Team Leads are responsible for day-to-day support, training, supervision, and mentoring Harm Reduction Housing Workers (HRHWs) as they deliver on-demand harm reduction services to 60-65 tenants. The Overlook team values diversity, and proactively seeks ways to incorporate a collaborative community approach.


 Position Responsibilities

 

  • Support Harm Reduction Housing Workers (HRHWs) including full-time, part-time, and casual program staff, to fulfill their on-shift responsibilities to ensure day-to-day operations of the Overlook.
  • Fulfills the roles and responsibilities of a HRHW, filling a regular harm reduction housing worker shift 3 days/week. Fulfill the additional responsibilities of the Team Lead role on the remaining two days per week.
  • Support Assistant Manager of the Overlook with hiring, orientation and training for all HRHWs including:

o   Ensuring the HRHW training checklist and training information is up to date based on needs

o   Providing on-site and ongoing training to all HRHWs on harm reduction supplies, order and inventory of harm reduction supplies, adequate and ethical daily note taking, protocols for tenant, building maintenance, and tenant emergencies, community resources, etc.

o   Ensuring HRHW logins are set up and new staff have access to NECHC email, shared drives, tenant documents, etc.

  • Support the Assistant Manager of the Overlook with scheduling for the harm reduction housing team.
  • Direct oversight for the full time, part time and casual HRHW staff at the Overlook
  • Ensure the harm reduction housing team is facilitating access to appropriate resources for clients, including both internal and external services related to their health and well-being, and community engagement.
  • Attend team meetings and support as necessary
  • Work alongside tenants’ case managers and Overlook peer live ins to support tenants and respond to their needs
  • Oversee, assist and guide HRHWs to run regular tenant programs and activities, in collaboration with tenants, ensuring the programs and services contribute to the overall well-being of tenants and the Overlook as a whole
  • Assistance keeping tenant files (digital and paper) up to date and organized.
  • Support the process when tenants have complaints or concerns, acting as a point of contact towards solutions prior to involving the management team.
  • Other duties as assigned

Education and Experience: 

  • 3-4 years leadership experience supervising diverse staff in a unionized environment
  • Strong alignment and understanding of harm reduction principles and safer supply programs
  • Experience in using restorative and/or transformative justice approaches 
  • Understanding and knowledge of person centred de-escalation
  • Proficiency in computer use including data management and Microsoft 365 (SharePoint, Microsoft Office programs)
  • A demonstrated commitment to working in ways that are inclusive and equitable, recognizing and addressing barriers related to race, gender, ability, poverty, and systems of injustice.
  • Valid drivers license
