Working as part of the kitchen team, the Kitchen Helper at Phoenix Society is responsible for food preparation. Key responsibilities include preparing meal ingredients, maintaining a clean kitchen area, cleaning dishes and cooking instruments; and loading items for transport to the Society’s various locations in a safe, timely manner.
Responsibilities:
Food Services
× Prepare meal ingredients for cooks, including washing, peeling, cutting and slicing ingredients
× Assist kitchen staff to unload food supplies from delivery trucks
× Store ingredients and food items according to food safety standards
× Remove expired or spoiled ingredients from the refrigerator, freezer and stockroom
× Clean and store all dishes, utensils and cooking instruments
× Pack take-out orders as needed
× Load, items for transport to the Society’s various housing locations in a safe, timely manner
× Sanitize food service equipment (e.g., Cambro carts) when they are returned from meal service delivery
× Remove garbage/compost, replace garbage/compost bags and wash garbage/compost bins
× Mop and sweep kitchen areas as required
× Other duties as assigned
Qualifications
× Grade 10
× Recent, related experience of one year in food preparation, cleaning or equivalent Or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience Or other Qualifications determined to be reasonable and relevant to the level of work
× Satisfactory completion of a criminal records check with vulnerable sector screening is required
× Satisfactory completion of Tuberculosis Screen form is required
× Satisfactory completion of Employee Immunization Record form is required
× First Aid certification with CPR is required
× Food Safe Level 1 is required
