Since 1981, Ronald McDonald
House Charities (RMHC) Toronto has served as a place to call home for families
with seriously ill children undergoing treatment. RMHC Toronto encompasses a
House for 81 families in downtown Toronto and seven Family Rooms in hospitals
across the Greater Toronto Area and in Sudbury. The families we serve come from
throughout Ontario, across Canada and around the world.
We are seeking to fill a volunteer
Board Director position to add expertise in Accounting/Finance to our Board of
Directors team in Toronto.
About the Opportunity
RMHC Toronto is
directed by a board that is currently comprised of 17 directors who have the
responsibility of leading, developing and approving the strategic direction of
RMHC Toronto and establishing appropriate governance and risk management
strategies to ensure promotion of the mission, protection of the assets, and
sustainable long-term growth and viability.
We are specifically
seeking to recruit a Director with experience in accounting, finance or financial
management to be an active participant on the Finance & Audit Committee of
the Board.
Key
Accountabilities:
· Acting as a conscientious ambassador who advocates for the
organization's mission and garners support from the community,
· Fundraising, relationship building, willingness to engage
network,
· Approving and monitoring Operating Budget, Capital Budget
and Reserve Funds,
· Identifying, appointing and evaluating the CEO,
· Monitoring the organization's performance (overseeing the conduct
of the business of the organization),
· Overseeing risk management,
· Representing RMHC Toronto at events, as required,
· Attending and participating in Board of Director meetings (minimum
of 4 per year) - reviewing agenda and supporting materials prior to meetings and engaging in meaningful discussions,
· Participating on at least one Board Committee
(approximately 4 meetings per year),
· Board members will serve a term of three years and are
eligible for renewal for additional three-year terms up to a maximum of three
terms.
Qualifications:
Finance/Financial Management Experience
· Seven (7)+ years of accounting or related financial
management experience and knowledge of financial risk management in a corporate
or non-profit environment;
· Previous experience in serving on a non-profit,
community-based board, and/or committee would be an asset;
· Expertise in investment management would be considered an
asset;
· Expertise in reviewing operating plans and capital budgets
would be considered an asset;
· Must be 18 years of age or older.

· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Ability to commit time to Board and Committee
responsibilities.
