What do we need from you?

As a Support Educator, you are responsible for providing quality one-on-one care to a child with exceptional needs to create an inclusive environment with activities to stimulate and develop their intellectual, physical, and emotional growth and ensure their security and well-being.

What will you do?

  • Develop and implement child-care programs that support and promote the physical, cognitive, emotional and social development of children
  • Lead activities by telling or reading stories, teaching songs, playing games, taking children to local points of interest and providing opportunities to express creativity through the media of art, dramatic play, music and physical activity
  • Plan and maintain an environment that protects the health, security and well-being of children
  • Assess the abilities, interests and needs of children and discuss progress or problems with parents and other staff members
  • Observe children for signs of potential learning or behavioral problems and prepare reports for parents, guardians or supervisor
  • Guide and assist children in the development of proper eating, dressing and toilet habits
  • Establish and maintain collaborative relationships with co-workers and community service providers working with children
  • May plan and organize activities for school-age children in child-care programs before and after regular school hours
  • May supervise and coordinate activities of other early childhood educators and early childhood educator assistants
  • Classroom maintenance and light cleaning duties required
  • May conduct diaper changes and support with handwashing and hygiene

  • Critical thinking skills and ability to respond to urgent needs
  • Ability to lift and carry children and equipment up to 30 pounds
  • Ability to engage in active play, including bending, kneeling, and sitting on the floor
  • Ability to work indoors and outdoors in various weather conditions

Required Qualifications to Work at Kepler Academy:

  • Child Development Certificate issued in the Province of Alberta, Level 1, 2 or 3 required
  • Prior experience working with children that have been diagnosed
  • Knowledge of child development principles and best practices in early childhood education.
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively with a diverse team of child care professionals.
  • Standard First Aid certificate
  • Current criminal record check, including vulnerable sector search
