RESPONSIBILITIES

The Economic Development Coordinator Summer Student plays a vital role in our organization, serving as a catalyst for creativity, innovation, and hands-on learning within our YWCA Hamilton community. With a strong commitment to education and a passion for fostering a culture of making, the Economic Development Coordinator Summer Student is responsible for supporting a dynamic and inclusive environment where individuals of all ages can explore, design, and bring their ideas to life. 

The Economic Development Coordinator, Summer Student not only supports in facilitating the use of cutting-edge technology and tools but also instills a sense of curiosity, collaboration, and confidence in all who enter the MakerSpace, ultimately shaping the next generation of innovators and problem solvers.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:  

·        Works with limited pieces of client confidential data and ensures that such data is stored in accordance with YWCA policies; 

·        Collect feedback from members and work with the team to suggest any improvements; 

·        Connects and assists in building strong and positive relationships with clients in a cohesive and respectful environment; 

·        Work in partnership other department staff responsible including those responsible for the delivery of women’s entrepreneurship programs 

·        Works safely, reports all workplace hazards and follows all YWCA Hamilton Health and Safety policies and procedures, 

·        Familiar with, and adheres to the Occupational Health & Safety Act, (OHSA) Workplace Safety Insurance Board Act (WSIB), Human Rights and Employment Standards Act (ESA);

·        Participates in Health & Safety training provided by the YWCA;

·        Attends and participates in staff/team meetings;

·        Ensures compliance with YWCA Hamilton policies and procedures;

·        Maintains high level of confidentiality/privacy when working with client information;

·        Supports the YWCA Hamilton mission, vision and values;

·        Performs other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS: 

·        Works 35-hour work week.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

·        Enrolled in or completed post-secondary education in Economic Development, Business, Entrepreneurship or related discipline (or equivalent experience);

·        Current knowledge of business-related software and technology;

·        Experience with educational program development and management;

·        Must have current Standard First Aid and CPR C certificate or willingness to obtain at own cost; 

·        Must be able to lead and work from a feminist, anti-racist / anti-oppressive perspective for operations and strategic planning;

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills;

·        Must provide a current Vulnerable Sector Police check or willingness to obtain at own cost; Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and also work effectively in a team; 

·        Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset.
