RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Communications Manager, the Communications Generalist executes a wide range of work in the communications portfolio. They will support the development and execution of internal and external communications to support the organization’s mission and programs. This role is responsible for communications plans social media coordination, content creation, graphic design support, website updates.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

·        Support program leads in developing and implementing communication plans;

·        Draft, review, and implement communications content with support and final approval from the Communications Manager;

·        Tracks and reports on communications metrics (e.g., social media engagement, newsletter performance, website traffic);

·        Create, maintain, and update the social media content calendar;

·        Draft, review, and schedule social media posts across platforms;

·        Monitor social media engagement and flag opportunities or issues to the Communications Manager;

·        Draft newsletters, blogs, announcements, and other internal and external communications.

·        Collect and maintain a repository of stories, testimonials, and program highlights;

·        Manage the technical aspects of newsletter creation and distribution, including formatting and scheduling.

·        Review and approve website content for accuracy, tone, and brand consistency with final approval from the Communications Manager;

·        Post and update website content as required and support IT with website design updates;

·        Update and maintain communication processes and procedures as necessary;

·        Provides process and system improvement recommendations;

·        Review programs design requests while ensuring alignment with YWCA Hamilton brand standards with final approval from the Communications Manager;

·        Create simple graphics and promotional materials using Canva or similar tools, as necessary;

·        Ensure communications and materials comply with Accessibility for Ontarians with Disabilities Act (AODA) requirements and organizational accessibility standards;

·        Ensures confidentiality and privacy of sensitive records;

·        Understands emerging trends, leading practices, industry professional standards;

·        Nurtures and forms meaningful internal and external working relationships and partnerships;

·        Participate in mandatory organizational and departmental trainings and meetings;

·        Supports YWCA Hamilton mission, vision, and values;

·        Perform other duties as required.

WORKING CONDITIONS:

·        Works 37.5-hour work week; work on evenings or weekends may be required;

·        May be required to travel from time to time.


QUALIFICATIONS

·        2 years of post-secondary education in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, or similar field or a combination of equivalent education and experience;

·        1–3 years of experience in communications, marketing, or a similar role;

·        Experience with Hootsuite, SharePoint, kapwing, Mailchimp or equivalents;

·        Working understanding of AODA in communications;

·        Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities;

·        Ability to discern and prioritize the organization’s overall brand and image;

·        Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills;

·        Experience managing social media accounts for an organization;

·        Demonstrated proficiency with Canva or similar graphic design tools;

·        Experience with website content management systems and email marketing platforms is an asset;

·        Must be able to lead and work from a feminist, anti-racist / anti-oppressive perspective for operations and strategic planning;

·        Must provide a current Criminal record Judicial Matters or willingness to obtain at own cost;

·        Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, and also work effectively in a team;

·        Ability to travel as needed;

·        Bilingual English/French or other languages an asset.
