Position Status: Part-TIme

Salary: $15.00-$16.50 per hour

Start Date: Immediately

Location: John W. Lindsay YMCA, 5640 Sackville Street, Halifax, Nova Scotia

The Opportunity

This position plays an important role in ensuring our facility is a clean and comfortable space, that offers a positive and safe experience for all participants using our facilities. Reporting to the Cleaning Supervisor, this role is integral to ensure that our facility meets the highest standards of building cleanliness and safety in all program and public areas.

Responsibilities

  • Maintain a clean and clutter-free environment in public and program areas of the facility, including fitness centres, change/washrooms, lobby, offices, childminding, aquatics area, and outside parameter of the building
  • Assist in the overall cleaning and sanitation of the facility, including garbage removal, dusting, sweeping, mopping floors, toilets, steam rooms, saunas, windows, vacuuming, disinfecting facility areas and replenishing supplies in washrooms/locker rooms
  • Perform laundry related duties, including collection of used towels, loading and unloading of laundry machines, folding towels, and replenishing towels in the adult locker rooms
  • Foster a positive, comfortable environment in dealings with staff, volunteers, members, participants, and visitors to the facility
  • Interact with internal and external contacts in a friendly and welcoming manner

Qualifications & Skills

  • 1-3 Years cleaning experience
  • Strong working knowledge and certification in WHMIS, or willing to obtain
  • Proven background in cleaning support to multi-program facility (i.e., fitness, aquatics, etc.) an asset
  • Strong work ethic and flexibility to work irregular hours
  • Dedication to safety and quality commitment
  • Able to work with minimum supervision
  • Able to handle multiple, competing tasks
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills

Conditions of Employment

  • Current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check (must be dated less than 6 months from hire date)
  • Clear Child Abuse Register Check
  • Completion of YMCA’s Child Safety & Protection Orientation within first week of employment
  • Completion of YMCA Child Safeguarding Training within probationary period
  • Valid First Aid and CPR certificate if required for the role
