POSITION SUMMARY

 

Patrol the hill to ensure that all guests are skiing or riding according to the "Alpine Responsibility Code" and Snow Valley policies. Provide safety risk management and other services for our staff and guests. Assess, stabilize and evacuate sick and injured patrons in the area of operation. 

 

SPECIFIC ACCOUNTABILITIES

 

  1. Provide assistance & services in accordance with Snow Valley guidelines.
  2. Act as a host: engage guests and interact with them to ensure they have a positive and friendly experience.
  3. Handle all inquiries & complaints in a professional & competent manner applying a win-win attitude. Keep Supervisors informed of guest-related problems.
  4. Promote skier and rider safety, encourage & enforce the Alpine Responsibility Code through leading by  example at all times.
  5. Proactively recognize and inform the Facility Operations Supervisor on duty of any conditions throughout Snow Valley that may pose a threat to the safety and well-being of our guests and staff.
  6. Recognize and report potential lift problems.
  7. Work closely and constructively with other members of the Ski Patrol team.
  8. Act as a liaison with Operations Management for Workplace Health & Safety Issues. Contribute ideas to Operations Management for improvements or changes to the Patrolling system and the procedures.
  9. Be proficient in maintaining a high-level of lift evacuation and toboggan skills.
  10. Assist in maintaining a neat appearance of Snow Valley grounds in general to maintain cleanliness, tidiness and a professional image to our guests. Generally provide a safe, uncluttered, litter-free environment.
  11. Assist Lift Operators to perform daily housekeeping duties including placing/removing fences, establishing & maintaining ramps in load/unload areas, setting up maze area, and placing/removing signs.
  12. Coordinate with the Shift Leader to ensure daily duties are fulfilled.
  13. Maintain an inventory of the medical services equipment and make arrangements for pick up to ensure inventory is up to date.
  14. Maintain first aid cabinet supplies in accordance to Workplace Health & Safety & Snow Valley policies.
  15. Perform line control and check guests’ lift passes for validity at the lift lines. Inform MOD and/or Operations     Supervisors of any guests breaking rules or using facility without a valid pass and assist in dealing with any offenders.
  16. Ensure the Patrol team on duty is spread out and covering as much of the hill as possible at all times – Patrollers must not congregate in a single group.
  17. Be aware of promotional & special events, school bookings, corporate & group functions in order to help direct guests & staff for these events.
  18. Maintain certification to stay current & up to date for emergency medical services.
  19. Act in a responsible manner while representing Snow Valley, abide by, and adhere to the policies.
  20. We are a team at Snow Valley and as a member of that team, you may be asked to assist other departments or you may draw upon help from other staff members to help you achieve your goals.
  21. Perform other responsibilities when required as directed by Operations Management.

WORKING CONDITIONS

 

This position is seasonal and requires working on weekends, weeknights and holidays. This is an outdoors, all weather position - must enjoy working outdoors during inclement weather conditions. Working hours may be limited during slow periods resulting from lack of patrons or inclement weather. May lift items weighing up to 34 pounds on a frequent basis and 35 to 74 pounds on an occasional basis. May carry, push or pull items weighing up to 24 pounds on an occasional basis.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

 

Standard First Aid and CPR training is a desired qualification for this position. Must be at least a strong immediate skier or snowboarder. Some experience in the ski industry is helpful.

 

 

HEALTH & SAFETY HAZARDS

 

Identified health and safety hazards associated with this position include: strain from lifting, repetitive motion strain, falls, slipping, tripping, collisions with skiers and snowboarders, exposure to blood and bodily fluids, and exposure to extreme and varying temperature.
