Marketing Assistant
PRIMARY PURPOSE:
The Marketing Assistant supports communications and outreach efforts by helping create content, assisting with campaigns, and contributing to daily marketing tasks. This student role provides practical, hands-on experience and helps build foundational skills in digital marketing.
WAGE: $18/ hour
HOURS OF WORK: 35 hours/ week
PERIOD OF EMPLOYMENT: January 12th - March 27th, 2026
LOCATION: Hybrid in the Niagara Region
Please note: This role is part of a secondment arrangement. The successful candidate will be employed by Civiconnect, but their day-to-day responsibilities will be carried out with a partner organization under their operational supervision.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Create and schedule social media content, including captions, graphics, and basic video concepts.
Support promotional efforts for events and third-party fundraisers.
Draft email newsletters, blog posts, website updates, and general marketing copy.
Assist with organizing and maintaining photo and video assets for marketing use.
Ensure brand consistency across all marketing materials and digital platforms.
Assist in developing marketing plans and campaign strategies aligned with organizational goals and target audiences.
Support the execution of marketing and promotional campaigns across digital channels (social media, email, web).
Monitor campaign performance using analytics tools and prepare basic reports identifying trends, engagement metrics, and areas for improvement.
Conduct research on marketing strategies, trends, competitor activity, and audience insights to support content and campaign development.
Assist in content planning that aligns with brand messaging, tone, and visual identity.
Participate in keyword research and contribute to optimizing digital content for improved online visibility.
Collaborate with team members to support project timelines, deliverables, and overall marketing objectives.
Stay current with marketing trends, tools, and best practices.
Utilize AI tools for brainstorming, drafting, and refining content while ensuring alignment with brand tone and messaging.
Perform additional marketing or administrative tasks as required

Hybrid work environment.
There will be days when the Marketing Assistant will be required to attend virtual technical and soft skills workshops.
PROGRAMS / SOFTWARE USED:
Facebook – posting updates, sharing events, and engaging with our community
Instagram – reels, stories, visual content, and caption writing
Website CMS – updating pages and uploading content
YouTube – uploading videos, adding descriptions, and organizing playlists
Flickr – managing albums and organizing event photography
QUALIFICATIONS:

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Positive attitude and eagerness to contribute to creative work
Familiarity with social platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube
Priority given to applicants who are enrolled in a marketing, communications, public relations, or a closely related program.
The YSS is an integrated learning environment, and no prior experience is required, however, knowledge of the following is beneficial.
Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and basic graphic design tools.
Familiarity with analytics tools to measure and interpret campaign performance.
Knowledge of marketing concepts and strategies, including SEO, SEM, email marketing, social media, and content marketing.
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
Civiconnect receives government funding based on certain eligibility requirements. Please only apply if you meet the following criteria:
Must be between 18-29 years of age
Must be enrolled in part-time or full-time studies at a Canadian post-secondary institution with a co-op or internship
Must be a Canadian Citizen or Permanent Resident
Must be able to work full-time for a duration of 11 weeks.
