Board of Directors – Treasurer (Volunteer)
Are you looking to give back to your community? Do you share our vision of a community free from abuse and endorse the KWS mission to support people impacted by abuse through programs, services, education, and partnerships?
The Kelowna Women’s Shelter (KWS) is recruiting a Treasurer to join our Volunteer Board of Directors.
Individuals holding a CPA designation or equivalent education and experience and are interested in joining our volunteer Board of Directors are encouraged to apply.
The Board is currently undertaking important governance work in support of the strategic plan to transition to its desired state as a policy/governance board. This governance model ensures that KWS is effectively governed by the Board and managed by the leadership team.
The Board approved a strategic plan in 2025 that focuses KWS efforts on four pillars: programs and services, our people, sustainability, and the community. The plan anticipates expansion of transition housing, second stage housing, programs and services in response to a growing community need.
Our approximately 67 staff and 50 volunteers provide the following services:
- Emergency, transitional and second stage housing,
- Dedicated team operating the 24-hour crisis phone line,
- PEACE program - a children’s program based on Prevention, Education, Advocacy, Counselling, and Empowerment (PEACE),
- Education & Prevention Program,
- Thrift Store that supports and helps fund programs and services.
As a Director in the Treasurer role you would be expected to:
- Fulfill all governance responsibilities including abiding by the by-laws, code of conduct, conflict of interest and other policies that apply to the Board.
- Prepare for and attend Board meetings (monthly meetings typically 10 meetings per year, plus committee and other ad hoc meetings).
- Chair the Finance Committee of the Board and support strategic financial decision‑making
- Represent KWS in the broader community.
