On-Call Nanny
Jovie Newport Beach: OC/LA On-Call Nanny
Hello,
Are you smart, capable, and always ready for an adventure? If so, this is the perfect childcare opportunity for you!
At Jovie Newport Beach, we believe in the magic of childhood and are on the lookout for individuals who share our passion. Do you find yourself gravitating toward the kids’ table at gatherings, where fun and wonder are the main course? Do babysitting gigs feel more like playtime than work? If so, your authentic love for children and stellar childcare skills are exactly what we need to provide reliable, engaging, and joyful care for families.
Why Jovie?
With over 20 years of experience, Jovie (formerly College Nannies + Sitters) has been a trusted name in childcare, serving families across 37 states and nearly 200 locations in the U.S. Our motto is: “Building Stronger Families.” Join us and be part of a purpose-driven organization that values your contributions and provides the support and resources you need to succeed.
We are also a Bright Horizons Back-Up Care Provider, which means most of the clients you’ll be supporting pay a subsidized rate for care. Our mission is to provide these working families with a dependable team of ready-to-go nannies who can step in and help with short-term or last-minute needs.
Your Role:
- Provide in-home care for children ages 6 weeks to 13 years within a 20-mile radius of your home (primarily in OC and LA coastal cities).
- Create a safe, positive, and engaging environment for children while their parents are at work or attending obligations.
- Help with personal/hygiene care, supervise outdoor play, do light housekeeping, facilitate games/activities, prepare meals/snacks, help with homework/studying and practicing sports/instruments as asked by the clients.
What’s In It for You:
- Competitive Pay: Earn $17–$19/hour as your base rate with occasional opportunities to earn $20-$25/hour via biweekly direct deposit. You’ll receive a W-2 from us at year’s end. Some families offer tips or meals—you’re also welcome to pack your own or order food delivery.
- Intermittent Breaks: You’ll be responsible for the children for the entirety of your shift. You may have downtime during naps, after putting kids down to sleep for the night, and can eat meals/use the restroom as needed during care.
- Minimum Pay Protection: If you’re booked for a shift shorter than 4 hours, you’ll still be paid for 4 hours. Additionally, if a family cancels last minute (after 5 PM the night before), you’ll be paid for 4 hours of work.
- Overtime Pay: Earn time and a half for shifts longer than 8 hours, and double time for shifts longer than 12 hours. We do not limit opportunities to accumulate overtime.
- Extra Kid Pay: Most families have 1–2 children, but if you care for 3 kids, you’ll earn an extra $1/hour. For 4 kids, it’s $2/hour extra.
- Flexible Schedule: Apply with at least two full days (12-hour slots) of recurring availability per week. You can adjust your schedule as needed—you’re in control.
- Vetted Families: You’ll work with a wide range of families under contract, ensuring a safe work environment. We value feedback from our nannies and make accommodations as needed.
- Variety: No two days are the same—enjoy variety while caring for children of different ages and in different home environments.
- Supportive Team: Our management team is available and on-call to help with questions and concerns. We value your feedback and strive to make great matches between nannies and families.
- Group Events: Optional opportunities to work fun on-site childcare events. These pay more and are a great way to connect with other nannies.
- Respite Care: Optional opportunities to work with people who have special needs. For this type of care, we take care recipients up to age 25 and we would announce the specifics ahead of time.
- Transportation Reimbursement: you get to decide if you'd be willing to transport children. some families request this in either their own vehicle or in yours. If you use yours, you'd get reimbursed for gas at $0.725 per mile.
- No upfront cost: We invest in you upon hire by paying for the background check, CPR/First-Aid course, and providing company merch such as a T shirt and nanny bag.
- Benefits & Protections: We provide workers’ comp, liability insurance, accruable sick pay, travel compensation, late cancellation payouts, and 401(k) enrollment.
- Bonuses:
- Referral Bonus: Earn $200 for every nanny you refer who gets hired and stays with us for at least 90 days.
- Performance Bonus: Receive a $5 reward for every 5-star review you receive from a family.
- Travel Bonuses (based on distance traveled one-way):
- From Los Angeles County:
- $10 bonus for 10–14.9 miles
- $20 bonus for 15–19.9 miles
- $30 bonus for 20+ miles
- From Orange County:
- $10 bonus for 15–19.9 miles
- $20 bonus for 20+ miles
Scheduling, Communication, and What to Expect
- Professional Tools: Your hours are logged in the MyJovie app, which you’ll also use to view upcoming care sessions and clock in/out.
- Shift Assignments: You may be scheduled through:
- Manual Staffing – our management team will assign you shifts directly
- Instant Booking – the system may auto-book you for care based on your listed availability and location, up to 3 hours before the shift starts.
- Managing Your Availability: Want to take a day off? Just ask us to remove your availability or cancel your assignement by 4:30 PM the day before. This applies Monday-Friday. If you need to adjust your weekend schedule, we need notice by 4:30PM Friday to avoid a cancellation penalty.
- Open Shifts: If a shift falls outside any team members’ sector and availability, you can still grab it if interested. It’ll either:
- Show up as an Open Order in your MyJovie app, or
- Be sent via MyJovie mass message from management, and you can reach out to claim it.
- Wider Availability = More Hours: While we only require a minimum of two 12-hour availability windows per week, caregivers with wider availability (e.g., 7 AM–Midnight) are much more likely to be booked consistently. We receive a high volume of family requests that start around 7, 8, or 9 AM and many that end around 10, 11 PM, or Midnight, so flexibility during these times increases your chances of getting hours. Shifts typically range from 6–10 hours depending on family needs.
- Communication Style: Our primary method of communication is text. Upon hire, you’ll be added to a group chat with both managers and the owner. We’re big on clear, honest, and consistent communication—and we’re excited to build strong, supportive relationships with every caregiver on our team.
- What to Expect Early On: When you’re just starting, it’s common to be booked the day before care and to meet lots of new families. Over time, many families begin requesting their favorite sitters—which can lead to being booked further in advance and will allow for more consistency and stability in your schedule.
Qualifications:
- Authorized to work in the U.S.
- Over the age of 18.
- Valid U.S. driver’s license and access to a reliable, insured vehicle.
- CPR/First Aid certified or willing to get certified upon hire.
- Willing to undergo and able to pass a background check and fingerprinting.
- At least 2 years of childcare experience, including with infants.
- Must live in Orange County or Los Angeles County.
- Passionate about working with kids and maintaining a professional relationship with families.
