About the Opportunity

The Link: Youth and Family Supports is seeking compassionate and experienced Senior Youth Care Practitioner with clinical knowledge and experience for full-time positions within the Elizabeth Road Program. The Elizabeth Road Program provides clinical supports for an individual youth. The unique home provides 24/7 support for youth in a home-like setting and is responsible for working alongside the youth, supervising, mentoring and supporting the engagement in healthy activities utilizing a positive, trauma informed, strength-based philosophy. The Senior Youth Care Practitioner must work from a person-centered, non-judgmental, trauma-informed, strength-based philosophy. The incumbent in this role is also responsible for collaborating across various systems to ensure that outcomes are in the best interest of the youth and align with the overall mission and purpose of the program. 

PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES of the Senior Youth Care Practitioner include but are not limited to:  

  • Conduct mental health support and assessment 
  • Provide clinical documentation, including daily clinical notes
  • Develop and implement goals for youth participating in the Elizabeth Road program, in collaboration with the Program Manager, community supports and staff team
  • Ensure structure is implemented while utilizing consistent and appropriate strategies 
  • Work with youth to problem solve, manage conflict, maintaining appropriate boundaries and expectations 
  • Provide mental, emotional, physical and spiritual support to youth based on the teachings of the Medicine Wheel; facilitate connection with cultural activities and ceremonies if requested
  • Provide crisis support and intervention as needed
  • Perform general facility tasks such as cleaning, cooking, chores, errands and routines to ensure the operation of the program
  • Attend staff meetings and training as required 
  • Work in collaboration with other teams and external stakeholders and service providers 
  • Other duties as reasonably assigned 

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • The successful candidate should demonstrate the following competencies which incorporate the Seven Sacred Teachings - Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Wisdom, and Humility & Truth
  • Post-secondary degree in applicable field of study (psychology, social work, social sciences)
  • Experience working with families in a supportive manner
  • Experience working with youth with mental health diagnosis 
  • Experience working with youth with substance use 
  • Experience working with vulnerable children and youth with an array of behavioral needs 
  • Knowledge of trauma and resilience informed care
  • Strong counseling skills and experience in Relational Care as well as excellent communication and interpersonal skills
  • Emergency First Aid and CPR Level C required
  • ASIST Training and De-escalation training required
  • Certification in DLE (The Purposeful use of Daily Life Events) or TCS (Therapeutic Crisis Solutions) 
  • Mental Health First Aid & Safe Talk Training 
  • The Link's Commit 2 Kids Training
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search, clear Child and Adult Abuse Registry Checks with acceptable Prior Contact Check all completed within the last 3 months
  • A valid driver's license, driver's abstract and access to a vehicle for work use is required for this role

HOURS OF WORK: 40 hours per week; varied shifts required including days, evenings, weekends, holidays and overnights

SALARY RANGE: $20.00 - $22.00 per hour
