2025 Innovation Farms Summer Intern
EMILI is seeking an agriculture student to join our team as a Summer Intern.
The Summer Intern is responsible for supporting the execution of projects related to digital agriculture at Innovation Farms, Powered by AgExpert near Grosse Isle Manitoba. Learn more about the project here.
Duties include:
Operation of small farm equipment such as tractors and mowers for plot maintenance
Maintenance and installation of agricultural technologies, such as weather stations, insect traps and soil moisture probes
Crop scouting for common pests and other growth characteristics
Field data collection and manual entry for project-specific needs
Imagery collection using GoPros, drones, tablets or mobile devices
Collecting stories and photos highlighting Innovation Farms activities for our communications
Organizing field tour days
The start date for the position is flexible in April 2025. The successful candidate will travel to the worksite, located in Grosse Isle, Manitoba, 3 or more days per week, as determined by business needs and weather conditions. Some remote work will also be required.
Compensation will be competitive and based on the level of experience of the selected student.
Requirements
Current student pursuing a degree at the bachelor or masters level in the discipline of Agriculture
Able to work extended hours indoors and outdoors
Suitable home workspace for remote workdays
Access to reliable vehicle and a valid Class 5 driver’s license for field workdays
Experience driving small farm equipment such as garden tractors
Strong technological acumen of digital tools used in agriculture
Research, organizational and analytical skills
Demonstrated ability to take responsibility, be accountable, and work collaboratively
Ability to work independently with minimal supervision
Background in agriculture or other related areas is an asset
