Job description:

Torch Remote Camps provides turnkey camp, open camp, and modular construction services to various clients and locations throughout Western Canada.

The Transportation Coordinator is responsible for planning, coordinating, and monitoring the movement of goods, materials, and people. They ensure all transportation operations operate smoothly and efficiently while adhering to provincial and federal safety and regulatory standards. This role requires management of schedules, optimizing routes, transporting staff, and consulting with drivers, vendors, and customers.

Duties and responsibilities

  • Coordination planning: Plan and schedule transportation routes, dispatch drivers, and coordinate with carriers to ensure timely and cost-effective delivery.
  • Operational oversight: Manage daily transportation operations, track shipments, and monitor delivery progress to prevent and resolve delays or other issues.
  • Documentation: Prepare and process all necessary transportation paperwork.
  • Compliance management: Ensure that all transportation activities comply with federal, provincial, and local regulations, including safety and environmental standards.
  • Vendor and client relations: Build and maintain strong relationships with carriers, suppliers, and customers. Negotiate rates and address any complaints or issues.
  • Data analysis and reporting: Gather data on performance metrics, analyze transportation costs, and prepare reports for management.
  • Problem-solving: Proactively identify and resolve operational problems, such as route disruptions, mechanical issues, or other issues as they arise.
  • Administrative tasks: Perform various administrative duties, including managing invoices, tracking mileage, and entering shipment information into company systems.
  • Training: Provide training to new commercial drivers and perform competency testing.
  • ELD: Knowledge and management of the MOTIVE ELD Program
  • Maintenance: Ensure Vehicles are tracked for maintenance and repair needs.

Required skills and qualifications.

Technical skills:

  • Proficiency with software: Experience with Microsoft based software packages and the MOTIVE ELD software.
  • Data analysis: Competency in using spreadsheet software, like Microsoft Excel, for data tracking, reporting, and analysis.
  • Route optimization: Knowledge of remote field locations throughout Alberta and B.C. Ability to utilize geographic location data to identify remote site locations.
  • Industry regulations: Thorough understanding of Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations, freight compliance, and safety standards.

Education and experience

  • Class 3 driver’s license with air brakes.
  • Previous remote field transportation experience.
  • Some post-secondary education is preferred.
