Reporting to:    Transition House Supervisor


Summary of Duties:


Reporting to the Transition House Supervisor, the Transition House Outreach Worker will be responsible for increasing awareness of Lil’wat Nation Transition House, its services as well as assist with reducing barriers for at risk individuals fleeing domestic violence. The Transition House Outreach Worker will assist with the Transition House programs as well as coordinating training opportunities for community on mental health, domestic violence, substance use, and resources in and around the community

Key Deliverables and Expectations:      

  • Create more awareness of Transition House.
  • Coordinate training and education to general community on the following: trauma informed care, lateral violence, naloxone training, first aid mental health, ASIST suicide intervention training, deescalating potentially violent situations, cultural training, basic prevention programs in the local schools, intergenerational/vicarious trauma education, education and awareness on domestic violence.
  • Develop and maintain relationships with internal departments of Lil’wat Nation as well as external service providers.
  • Refer clients to other social services or assist them in locating and utilizing community resources including legal, medical, and financial assistance, housing, employment, transportation, daycare, schooling, counseling, etc.
  • Managing the online presence of the Transition House.
  • Perform other related duties as requested.

Experience and Attributes:

  •  Previous work experience in a social service environment as a volunteer or in a support capacity may replace formal education requirements
  • Ability to deal effectively with conflict situations, mediate, manage aggressive behavior, and use non-violent crisis intervention and behavioral management techniques
  • Strong organizational & multi-tasking skills, meticulous attention to detail, and time management skills.
  • Excellent people skills with an emphasis on communication
  • Ability to work within a team and independently with the community.

  • Outstanding written and verbal communication skills in the English language.
  • Must have knowledge of Lil’wat Nation and surrounding First Nations communities and their respective culture and protocols.
  • Knowledge of systemic issues that may affect families facing domestic violence issues (ex. Lateral violence, trauma-informed lens, etc.)
  • Experience with Microsoft Office programs an asset.
  • Physical ability to carry out the duties of the position, including lifting up to 25lbs.
  • Successful completion of a Vulnerable Sector Criminal Record Check.
  • Must possess a Valid Class 5 Driver’s license and have a clean Driver’s Abstract.
