About the RoleThe Transition House Lead 1 works in collaboration with the Program Lead 2 to oversee the day-to-day operations (Thursday, Friday, Saturday, Monday) of Yew Transition House and Thyme Second Stage Programs and creates an environment where women and children participants are supported and have access to programing to support their goals. The Lead 1 reports to the Program Lead 2-Yew and Thyme Transition Houses.
What You’ll Do
- Collaborates with the Lead 2 to oversee the day-to-day operations of Yew and Thyme, ensuring effective operations, including staff scheduling, financial administration, and maintenance of the facilities and grounds.
- Responsible for the ongoing delivery of a 24-hour/day, seven days/week program, including being on call for Yew staff support when scheduled.
- Works with the Lead 2, Program Manager, and HR Manager to recruit, hire, orient, schedule, coach, train, supervise, discipline, and terminate staff in accordance with the collective agreement and SCCSS policies and procedures.
- Stays current with and implements the collective agreement.
- Establishes, implements, and maintains safety and security procedures.
- Builds rapport with clients to establish trust, confidence, and credibility.
- Performs basic cleaning, tidying, and organizational tasks as needed, and attends to minor household repairs and maintenance.
- Supports and debriefs employees to promote self-care and lessen the impact of trauma.
What You Bring
- Post-secondary degree in counselling or social work, plus two years of related experience or equivalent education and experience.
- Managerial experience in a unionized environment is preferred.
- Good working knowledge of local, provincial, and federal legislation and regulations relevant to the work.
- Experience working effectively and in a non-judgmental manner with clients from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socio-economic backgrounds.
- Experience applying a feminist analysis of gender violence, particularly as it affects children, women, and trans individuals.
- Solid understanding of systemic issues related to violence against women and children with Trauma informed approach.
- Knowledge of family systems and culturally competent practices.
- Experience with program planning, evaluation, and report writing is an asset.
- Knowledge of the dynamics of violence against marginalized individuals.
- Ability to work flexible hours.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively across programs and with community partners.
- Facilities management experience would be an asset.
- Strong knowledge of SCCSS programs and services.
- Strong computer skills, particularly in the Microsoft Office suite.
- Excellent communication and organizational skills, with the ability to prioritize effectively.

Additional information
- A Class 5 driver’s license is required to travel attend meetings and events across the coast.
- Criminal Record Check (CRC) clearance is required for working with vulnerable populations.
- First aid, Level C is required
