Casual (on-call) Childcare Workers
The Inter-Cultural Association of Greater Victoria (ICA) is an award-winning settlement agency that has contributed to Greater Victoria’s vibrant community for over fifty years. ICA’s services range from guiding immigrant entrepreneurs as they create small businesses to supporting vulnerable newcomers to become confident, contributing members of our community. In partnership with more than 500 community partners and generous donors and volunteers, ICA serves as a helping hand, a listening ear, and a tireless advocate for immigrants and refugees.
We are looking for Casual (on-call) Childcare Workers who will provide a safe environment for children aged 1-5 for participants in ICA’s various settlement and integration programs. You are energetic, warm, and working with children brings you joy. You have a keen understanding of the specific challenges immigrant and refugee children face, and you will use that knowledge to create and implement engaging activities to support and nurture the children under your care. Reporting to Childcare Coordinator.
What you will bring to the role:
• 2+ years’ experience working with children aged 1-5 in a childcare setting
• Knowledge and understanding of immigration and diversity issues and their affects on children, either from lived experience or work within the community
• Current, or willing to obtain, Emergency Childcare First Aid and CPR, WHIMIS certification, and Criminal Record Check
• Ability to safely lift children aged 1-5 aged
• A passion for working with children
• A patient, positive, and creative mindset
• The ability to work well in a team
Additional assets we value:

• Indigenous cultural competencies or lived experience with Indigenous communities
• Early Childhood Education (ECE) certificate is a strong asset
• Experience working with immigrant and refugee children

Compensation and Hours: This position starts at $24.78 per hour. On-call positions are available to cover shifts Monday to Friday, between 8:55-11:45 am and/or 12:30-3:10 pm. The position requires union membership.
