Cost Accounting Manager

The Cost Accounting Manager owns the end-to-end cost accounting function, including standard costing, inventory valuation, and variance analysis within a standard cost ERP such as Microsoft Dynamics 365, Oracle, or SAP. The ideal candidate brings strong technical accounting skills, ERP fluency, and the ability to lead a small team while driving process improvement and partnering with Operations, Supply Chain, Master Data, and FP&A. This role bridges transactional cost accounting and strategic cost insight to support margin, pricing, and decision making. The position reports to the FP&A Director and is based at our Delta, BC facility, with occasional travel to our downtown Vancouver office.
Responsibilities:
Own the cost accounting function, ensuring accurate standard product costs, inventory valuation, and compliance with accounting standards and operational controls.
Lead and develop the Cost Accounting Analyst; set priorities, review deliverables, and ensure on-time close activities, reconciliations, and reporting.
Direct the monthly and quarterly cost close, including review of journal entries, inventory and WIP reconciliations, and final cost reports.
Maintain standard costs and drive periodic reviews of BOMs, routings, and work centers with Operations and Master Data.
Produce variance analysis (material, labor, overhead) with root causes and actionable recommendations to improve process and margin.
Ensure accuracy of inventory-related trial balances; prepare consolidated quarterly reporting packages and support MD&A and audit requests.
Monitor capital project and fixed asset accounting, including AUC tracking and depreciation.
Lead continuous improvement: automate reporting, enhance ERP workflows, and author/maintain SOPs.
Partner with FP&A and Operations to align actuals with forecasts and support decision-making through timely, accurate cost reporting.
Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Engineering, or a related field
5 to 10 years of progressively responsible accounting experience leading into middle management, ideally in cannabis or multinational CPG
Advanced Excel skills (Power Query, Power Pivot, advanced formulas) and working knowledge of databases such as SQL
Detail-oriented with strong analytical skills
Able to manage multiple priorities and tight deadlines effectively
High sense of urgency and accountability
Proactive self-starter who identifies issues and works independently
Creative problem solver with a track record of process improvement
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; effective with stakeholders at all levels
Direct cannabis industry experience is a strong asset
