Corporate Controller
Dawson Group is looking for an experienced Corporate Controller who will provide oversight on all financial aspects of the business and drive the company’s financial strategy and planning.
In this role you will be a valued member of Dawson Group, working in a temporary, full-time position of Corporate Controller, reporting to the Chief Financial Officer (CFO). Your base location will be Kamloops, B.C. Dawson Group embraces distributed work, meaning the successful candidate will have the flexibility to work from home and/or at our office.

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE
- Oversee accounting for all entities, such that it is timely and efficient with a focus on continuous improvement and excellent customer service (internal/external).
- Prepare consolidated monthly, quarterly and annual financial reporting and analysis.
- Manage and control the month-end close process and timeliness for all companies.
- Prepare reporting to banks and surety.
- Prepare quarterly Board packages.
- Prepare annual budgets and quarterly forecasts with consolidated results and monitor actual results against these budgets/forecasts.
- Coordinate the financial budgeting and forecasting process.
- Provide coverage for the Division Accountants and other team members in their absence.
- Manage General Accounting services, including: tax compliance and accounting, consolidations, JV/investment accounting, overhead allocations, intercompany reconciliations and treasury.
- Prepare and control indirect tax requirements such as sales tax, GST, and withholding taxes.
- Develop, implement, document and adhere to financial policies, procedures and controls for all accounting and finance functions.
- Prepare monthly pension accounting and related reconciliations.
- Produce Government reporting as required (i.e. Statistics Canada, CRA, etc.).
- Ensure appropriate documentation, support, working papers and reconciliations to support recorded account balances are maintained.
- Manage and coordinate regulatory reporting including tax advisory, planning and compliance using external resources when necessary.
- Coordinate and manage, interim and annual assurance requirements with external auditors.
- Oversee project accounting to ensure completeness and accuracy of job costing for the Civil and Construction divisions.
- Coordinate annual insurance renewals for all companies.
- Manage cash management processes, cash forecasting, credit agreements in conjunction with financing arrangements and bank relationships, in concert with the Chief Financial Officer.
- Coordinate the building of a shared services model within the organization including hiring, training and retaining skilled accounting staff.
- Lead the Finance Team for development, further development and completion of the new ERP and related systems.
- Act as the main contact and triage point for enquiries/direction from Senior Management and Corporate Executive.
- Responsible for information analysis to internal and external customers.
- Oversight of 4 staff - 2 Accountants, 1 Treasury Accountant, 1 AP Manager.
WHAT YOU BRING
- Bachelor’s Degree in finance and or Business Administration
- 7 years of recent related experience with 5 years of experience in a management position
- CPA designation required
- Excellent organizational and leadership skills
- Must possess an analytical mind with strategic and interpersonal abilities
- Strong mentoring, process improvement and change management skills
- Strong accounting system experience with Netsuite, Sage &/or Timberline background an asset
