Scale Operator

John Ross & Sons Ltd. is a fourth generation, family-owned, scrap metal recycler. The company is the largest scrap metal recycling facility in Atlantic Canada and has been in operation for over 70 years, with locations all over Atlantic Canada. John Ross & Sons Ltd specializes in purchasing and processing all ferrous and non-ferrous scrap metals.

We are looking for an Scale Operator join our team in Halifax!

Our Scale Operator demonstrates strong attention to detail and exceptional analytical skills and works calmly under pressure. You possess excellent interpersonal and communication skills and thrive in a client-focused, team-oriented environment. .

Responsibilities will include:

• Be responsive to day-to-day issues, take a proactive role in improvement initiatives and be a high-performing team player
• Receiving load documents from drivers
• Checking accuracy of paperwork
• Communication with operations manager for receiving loads
• Scaling customers cars, truck, and sea containers in and out of yard
• Operate a 2 Way radio
• Working with logistics department 
• Keeping the work area clean and organized

Qualifications and Skills:

• Experience operating a scale weighing large trucks and loads
• Excellent administrative and communication skills, oral and written
• A strong foundation in delivering excellent customer service
• Ability to work independently and with a team in a demanding and fast-paced environment
• Proficient with Microsoft Office software with a focus on Excel 
• Excellent problem-solving skills with a commonsense approach
• Ability to analyze and determine priorities and adjust as circumstances change
• able to multitask in a fast-past industrial environment in a positive and friendly manner
• Highly organized with an ability to prioritize a changing workload
• Attention to detail is a must
• Logistics experience preferred

Working Conditions: 

• In-office
• Monday-Friday 8am-5pm, Saturdays 8am-12pm as needed
