About the Role:

The Family Resource Worker works within the Bellies and Babies and Parent - Tot programs supporting parents and caregivers with children birth to six years old.  The Family Resource Worker is part of a team providing a safe and welcoming environment for families and promotes healthy pregnancies to improve maternal outcomes. The Family Resource Worker creates a safe and stimulating play and learning environment suitable for the diverse developmental needs of children ages birth to six and provides hands on support and information that will assist parents and caregivers to enhance their parenting skills and nurture their relationship with their child/children. The Family Resource Worker reports to the Program Lead.

What You’ll Do
  • Plans and provides stimulating play and a learning environment for children.
  • Facilitates connections between participants.
  • Interacts with children to develop their social skills through play.
  • Shares information and resources with families on maternal and infant nutrition, infant care, development, and breastfeeding.
  • Encourages positive parent participation in play activities, offering feedback and suggestions when requested or required.
  • Refers families to appropriate community resources as needed.
  • Assists with food preparation and serving of lunch to program participants.
  • Facilitates and supports conflict resolution involving children, parents, and caregivers.
  • Demonstrates cultural competency when working with Indigenous families and the community.
  • Role models family-centered strategies to help parents understand their child’s behavior.
  • Ensures all toys and equipment meet safety standards.
  • Collaborates respectfully with colleagues to ensure effective service delivery consistent with the program mandate.
  • Assists the Program Lead in creating a learning environment for students and volunteers.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings set by the Program Lead.
  • Responsible for distributing survey forms to families to collect material relevant for reporting or accreditation.
  • Adheres to SCCSS policies and procedures and meets all legal, contractual, financial, and compliance requirements.
  • Assists with other duties as required to support the efficient operation of the organization
  • Ensures a safe, comfortable and welcoming environment for parents, caregivers and children.

What You Bring
  • Early Childhood Education or Family Resource Worker training or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Experience working with women both pre-and-postnatal.
  • Knowledge of nutrition, infant development, breastfeeding, and pregnancy issues.
  • Emergency Child Care First Aid (including infant CPR) required
  • Experience working in a program with a family-centered approach.
  • Demonstrated ability to communicate with participants in a non-judgmental and empathetic manner.
  • Group facilitation skills are an asset.
  • Successful result and maintenance of Criminal Record check.
  • A valid driver’s license and reliable vehicle is required to attend programs across the Coast.
  • Food Safe certification is an asset.
