POSITION SUMMARY

 

United Way Winnipeg is seeking a visionary and strategic Vice President, Marketing and Communications to lead our marketing and communications portfolio and strengthen our impact in the community. Reporting to the President and CEO and serving as a key member of the senior leadership team, the Vice President, Marketing and Communications will lead a high-performing team to deliver compelling, purpose-driven strategies that elevate our brand, grow revenue, inspire donors, and advance our mission.

 

This role is responsible for the development and execution of integrated marketing and communications strategies that support United Way Winnipeg’s fundraising, community impact, and partnership goals. With deep expertise in brand stewardship, digital marketing, content creation, and stakeholder engagement, the Vice President, Marketing and Communications will ensure a consistent, values-aligned presence across all platforms and audiences.

RESPONSIBILITIES

 

Strategic Marketing Leadership

·        Lead the development and successful delivery of comprehensive, multi-year, and multi-channel marketing and communications strategies and annual plans focused on achieving our fundraising and community impact goals, and grounded in the organization’s mission, values, and strategic priorities.

·        Steward and evolve the organization’s brand integrity and market positioning as a community leader and trusted charitable partner.

·        Conduct market analysis, competitive intelligence, donor segmentation to inform marketing strategies.

·        Research, evaluate and stay-on-top of leading and evolving marketing tools and trends, including AI.

 

Marketing Campaign and Program Development

·        Deliver marketing campaigns and programs that promote the United Way brand and achieve the organization’s fundraising objectives, including inspiring new donor to give and the effective stewardship of current donors. 

·        Drive the creation and delivery of innovative marketing campaigns, that include digital marketing, traditional advertising, social media, in-person workshops, inspiring events, and sponsorships.

·        Ensure all marketing programs are ‘on-brand’ and delivered on time and within budget.

·        Collaborate with internal teams and external partners to identify target audiences and tailor campaigns to promote accordingly.

 

Creative and Content Direction

·        Oversee the development and production of high-impact marketing and communication materials across all platforms (digital, traditional, and in-person events).

·        Set context and direct a team of creative professionals (including designers, writers, videographers and photographers – both internal and external) to ensure brand consistency and message alignment.

·        Lead the development and management of online content including the organization’s website, social media and digital properties.

 

Donor and Partner Engagement, Revenue Growth and Community Impact

·        Collaborate closely with peers and UWW team members to support donor acquisition, engagement, stewardship, and retention through effective marketing strategies for workplace fundraising, individual giving, vision philanthropy, our endowment fund and legacy giving.

·        Collaborate closely with peers and UWW team members leading community impact initiatives (agency partner network and sector capacity building, 211, Huddle, For Every Family, Koats for Kids, and more) to support effective promotion, philanthropy, impact reporting and partner relations.

·        Explore and evaluate opportunities for ancillary revenue and partnership growth, through initiatives like 3rd party events.

 

Leadership, Collaboration, and Governance

·        Contribute to a high-performing senior leadership team, working to advance UWW’s strategic direction, set high impact goals and steward partnerships to advance strategies and mitigate risks. 

·        Lead and support a high-performing marketing and communications team committed to service excellence, fostering an inclusive, respectful, and psychologically safe environment where all team members feel valued and empowered to contribute fully.

·        Provide strategic leadership to cross-functional teams, setting objectives, implementing plans and facilitating progress.

·        Collaborate with the Board of Trustee’s Marketing Advisory Committee to continually raise the bar on UWW’s marketing and communications strategies and programs.

·        Prepare and present strategic updates and marketing performance reports to the Board of Trustees and senior leadership.

 

Budget, Measurement, and Optimization

·        Develop and manage the marketing department’s annual budget, ensuring cost-effectiveness and alignment with organizational priorities with the view to maximize ROI.

·        Define key performance indicators (KPIs) and success metrics for the brand and marketing initiatives; track, report, and optimize performance.

·        Evaluate the impact and ROI of marketing programs and continuously recommend and implement improvements.

 

External Representation and Public Relations

·        Lead the public relations strategies for the organization, including  managing relationships with media, partners and other external stakeholders as required.

·        Provide professional support and coaching to volunteers and senior staff serving as spokespeople for United Way of Winnipeg in the media and community engagements.

·        Play an active role in the United Way movement across Canada by collaborating, leading and supporting opportunities to share learnings and collaborate on projects with peers across the country.


QUALIFICATIONS/EXPERIENCE

 

·        Bachelor’s degree in marketing, business or related field required, MBA or related Master’s degree preferred. CMMP or CMP certifications an asset but not required.

·        10 years of direct work experience in a marketing or communications management capacity and a minimum of 5 years in a senior leadership capacity.

·        3-5 years experience in the non-profit sector as an employee in a marketing and communications, or in volunteer roles an asset.

·        Excellent understanding and proven track record or brand building equity and managing brand reputation.

·        Demonstrated proficiency in digital marketing techniques, technologies, and solutions.

·        Breadth of working knowledge and past experience in publishing with print and web-media (magazines, newsletters, journals).

·        Knowledge of printing procedures and requirements preferred.

·        Highly collaborative, team-oriented individual with a proven record of multi-disciplinary collaboration and developing, leading and contributing to high-performance teams.

·        Demonstrated commitment to DEIB principles in leadership, decision-making, and team culture.

·        Exceptional leadership and people skills with the ability to lead and motivate people with direct and indirect authority.

·        Excellent written and verbal communication skills; experience presenting to executive teams and Boards of Directors an asset.

·        Visionary and strategic leadership skills with proven capacity to execute and manage end-to-end processes, meeting deadlines and budget requirements.

·        Inspired and driven by a sense of purpose and wanting to make a difference in the lives of people and communities.
