Flex Embalmer / Funeral Attendant
McInnis & Holloway Funeral Homes, a family-owned company that has been part of the Calgary community and a leader in the funeral services industry for over 120 years, is seeking a skilled and dedicated Licensed Embalmer to join our specialized Care Centre team while providing flexibility to support our Funeral Teams every other Friday
Our progressive, purpose-built facility is designed to support excellence in care, allowing our Embalmers to focus on their craft in a professional, respectful, and team-oriented environment. With full operational support from Transfer Specialists, Dispatch, and on-site assistance, our Embalmers are set up for success every shift.
This full-time position follows a structured 2-week rotating schedule with an average of 76 hours per pay period.
What You’ll Do:
This role is central to ensuring the highest standards of care, dignity, and presentation for those entrusted to us. Success in this position requires strong technical expertise, attention to detail, and a deep respect for the families we serve. This is a unique opportunity to broaden your skill set, gain exposure across departments, and play a key role in supporting overall operations.
Position Duties:
· Perform embalming, restorative work, and preparation of decedents in accordance with professional and regulatory standards
· Apply cosmetics, dressing, and casketing to ensure a dignified and natural presentation
· Maintain accurate documentation and case records in alignment with regulatory requirements
· Coordinate daily workflow, prioritization, and case assignments within the Care Centre
· Collaborate closely with Transfer Services, Dispatch, and Funeral Directors to ensure seamless operations
· Maintain cleanliness, organization, and sanitation of the preparation areas and equipment
· Adhere to all Occupational Health & Safety standards, including proper PPE use and infection control procedures
· Support and collaborate with fellow Embalmers to maintain a safe, efficient, and respectful team environment
· Support our Funeral Team every other Friday by actively participating in funeral activities
· Work closely with both Embalming and Funeral Teams to ensure seamless continuity of care
· Other duties as assigned
What You Bring:
· Licensed Embalmer in good standing with the Alberta Funeral Services Regulatory Board
· Minimum 1 year of embalming experience preferred
· Strong technical skills in embalming, restorative art, and decedent care
· High level of attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship
· Ability to prioritize, organize, and manage multiple cases effectively
· Professional, respectful, and team-oriented approach
· Strong communication skills
· Physical ability to safely lift, move, and handle decedents and equipment (up to 75 lbs) using appropriate tools and supports
· Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams) and Google Docs

· Starting wage of $24.50; negotiated based on experience
· Average work week of 38 hours
· Every other weekend off
· Core shift hours of 8:00 am - 6:00 pm
