Manager of People & Culture
CMHA Kelowna is hiring a full time Manager of People & Culture. This position is 37.5 hours a week with a typical work week of Monday – Friday, 9:00am – 5:00pm.
WHO IS THE MANAGER OF PEOPLE & CULTURE?
Reporting to the Director of People, Culture & Engagement, the Manager of People & Culture (P&C) is the go-to person for ensuring our candidate and employee experiences are inclusive and engaging. The Manager of P&C is responsible for providing coaching, advising, and HR generalist support across the organization in the day-to-day operations of job design, recruitment, retention, onboarding, performance management, leaves management, compliance and development. The Manager of P&C also supervises the Coordinator of P&C.
WHAT DOES THE MANAGER OF PEOPLE & CULTURE DO?
HR Advisory & Leadership
• Advise CMHA Kelowna leaders on HR best practices and lead the HR function
• Provide expert guidance on job design, recruitment, onboarding, performance management, and offboarding
• Offer strategic support in addressing employee complaints, misconduct, and respectful workplace concerns
Performance & Development
• Oversee performance management processes, including providing ongoing coaching and supervisory support
• Mentor, guide, and coach employees to foster a people-first, growth mindset
Communication & Engagement
• Lead communication efforts across departments about key HR programs, policies, and initiatives
• Coordinate staff social events, driving employee engagement, recognition, and retention strategies in partnership with CMHA Kelowna leaders
Safe & Healthy Workplaces
• Lead and promote a work culture of health, safety and wellness
• Ensure compliance with CMHA Kelowna’s Occupational Health and Safety policies and procedures, including the Psychological Health and Safety Standard
• Manage leaves of absence and accommodations in collaboration with WorkSafeBC and our benefits provider, as required
• Support relevant aspects of employee immigration processes , including, but not limited to, ensuring work permits remain valid, supporting employees through the Provincial Nominee Program, and complying with immigration laws
• Guide the organization in aligning with Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Committee goals
Process Improvement & Data Management
• Promote excellence in non-profit administration, governance, data management, and quality assurance
• Identify and address opportunities for process improvements in HR administration
• Utilize data and HR metrics to inform and drive strategic HR initiatives
Compensation & Benefits
• Oversee the administration of employee compensation and benefits programs, ensuring they are competitive and aligned with organizational goals
• Manage benefits enrollment and changes, resolve employee inquiries regarding benefits, and ensure compliance with benefits regulations
• Evaluate and recommend improvements to compensation and benefits programs to support employee satisfaction and retention
Performs other related duties as assigned
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE:
• Degree or Diploma in Human Resources Management
• Chartered Professional in Human Resources (CPHR) designation considered an asset
• Valid Class 5 driver’s license
• Previous experience in an HR Manager or Generalist role
• Experience working in a non-profit environment considered an asset
• Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal
• Ability to work effectively as part of a team as well as independently
• Demonstrated skill with mentoring employees and supporting performance management
• Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite
• Experience using Payworks considered an asset
• Experience with creating policy and process documentation
• Knowledge of Occupational Health and Safety best practices
• Strong attention to detail
• Demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills
• Strong analytical skills for utilizing data and HR metrics
• Ability to manage multiple tasks and priorities at once
