Job Summary

We are seeking a dynamic and results-driven Materials Marketing Manager to to manage the marketing and sales of recyclable materials produced from our material recovery facilities (MRFs) in Canada and Michigan as well as the procurement of recyclable materials from municipal or industrial, commercial, and institutional sectors.

The ideal candidate brings exceptional business acumen and ethics, and experience in the recycling industry. 

Position Description

  • Develop and implement marketing strategies to maximize the value of our commodities and increase market share. 
  • Develop and implement strategies to enable steady and stable movement of recyclable materials from our MRFs.
  • Identify new markets and customers for our recyclable materials.
  • Develop, grow and maintain relationships with suppliers, end-markets and brokers in the recycling market.
  • Manage the sale of our recyclable materials, in accordance with market conditions
  • Negotiate and maintain supply agreements.
  • Monitor market trends, market indexes, supply and demand, and make changes to our marketing strategies as needed. 
  • Manage and negotiate claims, including downgrades and rejections from buyers 
  • Analyse and report on market trends, pricing and demand for our recyclable materials.
  • Collaborate with our MRF team to ensure the quality of our recyclable materials meets buyers’ requirements. 
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant regulations and standards in the recycling industry and extended producer responsibility programs
  • Participate in regular meetings with MRF operations and accounting teams. 
  • Participate in industry events and conferences 
  • Participate in municipal or industrial, commercial, and institutional RFPs and tenders.
  • Supervise a small team, including customer service representatives and logistics coordinators. 
  • Visit MRFs and customers regularly to perform quality inspections and provide guidance to MRF staff across Canada and Michigan.
  • Become the system administrator of the company’s material management software. 

Skills & Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in business, marketing, or a related field.
  • Minimum of five (5) years of experience in commodities marketing and sales in the recycling or scrap industries an asset.
  • Logistic experience an asset.
  • Highly skilled in commercial negotiations.
  • Business acumen in contract and risk management.
  • Strong understanding of recyclable materials markets.
  • Excellent analytical and strategic thinking skills
  • Strong numerical aptitude
  • Strong communication, interpersonal  and organization skills.
  • Ability to work independently and collaboratively.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and work under pressure
  • Ability to multitask and set priorities for various tasks
  • High proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite.
  • Valid driver’s license.
  • Ability to travel as needed.
