Job Outline
The successful applicant will work to facilitate impactful experiences for our campers through in-camp activities. This individual will be directly responsible for the safety, enjoyment and learning of all campers and management of teams of counsellors/activity staff. This individual will be enthusiastic, camper-centric, team-oriented and able to cope with a busy camp atmosphere.
Our Program Managers facilitate skill-based learning and fun at their respective program area and ensure the physical and emotional well-being of campers and staff. Duties include facilitating outdoor educational programming, developing skill-based lessons and calendars, assessing and managing risk, ensuring a culture of safety and inclusivity, managing behavioral issues, and mentoring staff and campers.
This position includes room and board, and a fantastic summer at camp. As a condition of employment, a clear Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Screening is required.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bronze Cross or higher is mandatory and no exceptions can be made
- Standard First Aid and CPR-C
- National Lifeguard is mandatory for some program areas
- Other program specific certifications such as CUI levels or WSWO
- Experience working with children
Responsibilities Include
- Managing a specialized program area as a whole and the enforcement of all safety policies and procedures – Museum (Arts and Crafts), Waterfront, Sports, Water Ski, Canoe, Swim, High Ropes (Challenge Course).
- Managing a team of staff for each activity within the specified program area
- Providing feedback to all staff, including informal and bi-weekly reviews
- Designing a calendar of lessons for each session of the summer program
- Planning/facilitating appropriate lesson plans for all campers, within the lesson calendar
- Tracking of each camper’s level progression and completing report cards for the end of each session
- Demonstrating strong skills necessary for the program that you are managing; must have the appropriate certifications and trainings that will allow for safe and engaging facilitation
- Establishing and enforcing proper care and handling of all equipment
- Conducting written evaluations for Leadership campers every 2 weeks
- Demonstrating a constant understanding of program needs/inventory
- Ensuring each activity area is kept clean, organized and properly maintained each day
- Facilitating opportunities for further skill development during 5:00pm activity time
- Participating in our patrol and supervision duties during camper down times (rest hour, free time and evenings)
- Supporting other aspects of Kandalore’s in-camp program e.g. Tuck shop facilitation, special programs, leadership programs etc.
