Community Outreach & Events Facilitator – Full-Time 

Tuesday to Saturday | Day & Evening Shifts | 37.5 hours per week

Please note: Schedule flexibility is required, this role regularly supports initiatives that may necessitate occasional Sunday and/or Monday shifts.

Reporting to the Manager of Community Outreach & Events, the Community Outreach & Events Facilitator is am outgoing and community-minded individual who represents Calgary Humane Society through community engagement initiatives. This role works collaboratively with CHS’s Humane Education, Adoptions, Communications, Volunteer Resources and Engagement, and Fund Development teams to deliver exceptional  community experiences while advancing the mission and values of CHS.

This role is well suited for someone who enjoys a balance of planning and executing events, engaging with the public, building partnerships, and contributing ideas that expand CHS's community presence. Successful candidates are comfortable with the hands-on nature of event work and take pride in representing CHS with professionalism, enthusiasm, and compassion.

Duties:

  • Coordinate and support the planning, logistics, promotion, and execution of community outreach and third-party fundraising initiatives that advance CHS's mission and community impact.
  • Represent Calgary Humane Society at community events and outreach initiatives, engaging with members of the public and sharing information about CHS programs, services, volunteer opportunities, and animals available for adoption.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with community members, corporate partners, sponsors, volunteers, and third-party fundraisers to support CHS's mission and strategic goals.
  • Assist third-party fundraisers by providing guidance, resources, promotional support, and event materials to help ensure successful outcomes.
  • Prepare for and execute outreach events, including loading, transporting, setting up, dismantling, and maintaining event equipment, supplies, and promotional materials.
  • Maintain CHS outreach vehicles, event inventory, supplies, records, and program statistics to ensure operational readiness and accurate reporting.
  • Foster a positive volunteer experience by supporting volunteer engagement, recognition, communication, and teamwork at outreach events.
  • Support Humane Education presentations, community events, and other organizational initiatives as required.
  • Champion CHS values of teamwork, respect, compassion, integrity, innovation, and commitment in all interactions with colleagues, volunteers, and members of the public.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Position Requirements: 

  • High school diploma required.
  • Community outreach, fundraising, event coordination, customer service, or nonprofit experience preferred.
  • Outgoing, professional, and relationship-focused, with the ability to build meaningful connections with a diverse range of individuals, organizations, and community partners.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including public speaking and presenting to groups.
  • Highly self-motivated and resourceful, with the ability to work independently, take initiative, and drive projects forward with minimal supervision.
  • Comfortable managing unstructured time by identifying priorities, pursuing opportunities, and proactively contributing to departmental and organizational goals.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and time-management skills, with the ability to adapt in a fast-paced and evolving environment.
  • Demonstrated professionalism, resilience, and positive attitude when managing changing priorities and unexpected challenges.
  • Ability to work collaboratively as part of a team while also taking ownership of individual projects and responsibilities. 
  • Genuine concern for animal welfare and commitment to the mission and values of Calgary Humane Society.
  • Must possess a Class 5 Graduated Driver’s License or Class 5 Driver’s License, with a minimum of three years of driving experience and a five-year clean driver’s abstract.
  • Flexibility to work weekends, evenings, and occasional overtime as required.
  • Successful candidate will be required to provide a criminal record check at their own expense,  arranged by CHS. 

Physical Requirements:

  • This is an active, physically demanding role that requires frequent loading, unloading, transporting, and setting up event equipment, including tents, tables, signage, display materials, bins, and other outreach supplies.
  • Ability to frequently lift and carry up to 50 lbs independently and move larger items with assistance when required.
  • Ability to repeatedly bend, squat, reach, push, pull, and load equipment into and out of vehicles throughout a shift.
  • Ability to stand and walk for extended periods of time, often for several consecutive hours while attending community events.
  • Ability to work outdoors in a variety of weather conditions, including heat, cold, wind, and rain.
  • Physically capable of, and comfortable handling a variety of species including but not limited to: cats, dogs, rabbits, birds, reptiles

Annual Salary: 

  • $36,367.50 (increased to $40,170.00 upon successful completion of the probationary period)
