Senior Instructional Designer
Want a job where you'll never get bored? We're hiring a Senior Instructional Designer to work with clients across every industry. You'll partner with seasoned L&D teams on Monday, and guide total beginners through building their very first training on Tuesday.
If you love creating incredibly engaging eLearning, we want you on our team!
The RoleAs a senior leader on our Custom Learning team, you’ll own the full eLearning project lifecycle. You'll be the client’s main contact, trusted consultant, and scope guardian.
You'll tackle projects across every industry, ranging from straightforward Level 1 builds to complex, custom designs. Sometimes you’ll get polished source material; other times, you’ll take a rough idea and use your curriculum consulting magic to shape it into a course.
Around here, "Senior" means something. We’re looking for someone who sets the bar, eagerly shares their knowledge, and constantly finds ways to make the work better.
Your responsibilities will include (but not be limited to):
Working within the Instructional Design group and directly with clients to create curriculums, digital learning strategies, storyboards, and guide design work on client courses for various markets and topics.
Owning client projects end-to-end as the primary point of contact, managing timelines, scope, and budget while building client relationships where people value the experience of working with us as much as the high-quality standard of the work we produce
Providing leadership expertise on evidence-based best practices for digital learning and online pedagogy/andragogy.
Demonstrating proficiency in the instructional design process and adult learning principles including selecting appropriate learning methodologies that provide an engaging learner experience that meets learning objectives as well as learner and business needs.
Leveraging instructional design best practices, such as curriculum consulting, needs analysis, persona development, content frame working and storyboarding, to create interactive and enriched experiences.
Engaging with SMEs and clients in scripting, adapting, and transforming content for digital deployment with engaging learning solutions to increase cognitive understanding.
Demonstrating strong questioning, consulting, and problem-solving skills from both a business and technical perspective.
Providing accessibility leadership for projects with a deep understanding of accessibility guidelines, legislation, principles, and best practices.
Contributing to the development of replicable, scalable, consistent course design and development processes, including templates, standards, and best practices to create efficiencies and scale.
Proactively exploring and leveraging tools, including AI, to find smarter ways to work, and sharing what works with the team.
A post-secondary degree or diploma in a related field. A Master’s degree in Education, Instructional Design, Adult Education, Educational Technology, or a related discipline would be an asset.
A minimum of 5 years of experience in instructional design, with a focus on designing for eLearning.
Previous experience doing external client project work.
In-depth knowledge and understanding of learning theories, online pedagogy, and instructional design models such as ADDIE or SAM.
Experience in creating content using eLearning authoring tools such as Articulate 360 (Rise and Storyline).
Ability to write effective copy, instructional text, audio, and video scripts.
Strong understanding of responsive design (desktop, tablet, and mobile).
Demonstrated visual design knowledge with an ability to provide creative leadership and direction on digital learning projects.
Enjoy creating engaging and innovative training experiences, including utilizing gamification.
Excellent communication skills in English, both written and verbal.
Ability to meet deadlines and provide quick turnaround on projects when necessary.
Ability to engage with clients within the scope of project management, including managing project scope/budget and timelines.
Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
Knowledge and comfort in reaching for tools, including AI, when facing a process or productivity challenge. You ask what you’re trying to achieve, figure out how to get there, and share what you learn with the team.
Experience in planning, designing, and developing micro-credentials would be an asset.
Knowledge and understanding of the capabilities, functionality, and limitations of various Learning Management Systems would be an asset.
Previous experience and current interest in leading a team would be considered an asset.
