Employment Type: Summer Student/Casual On-Call Term Position (June 15, 2026 – August 28, 2026)


PURPOSE

The Gwich'in Tribal Council is seeking two motivated and reliable individuals to support the Early Learning Department in conducting an Early Learning Survey throughout the Gwich'in Settlement Area (GSA). Working alongside the Early Learning team, the successful candidates will assist with community engagement activities, collect survey information from beneficiaries, and support data collection efforts that will help inform future Early Learning programming and services.

 

This position offers valuable experience in community engagement, data collection, public relations, and Indigenous program development. Successful candidates must be comfortable working independently, travelling to remote communities, and interacting with beneficiaries in both individual and community settings.


RESPONSIBILITIES

• Assist the Early Learning team in conducting Early Learning Surveys throughout the Gwich'in Settlement Area.
• Travel with departmental staff to GSA communities during scheduled community engagement activities.
• Support presentations and information-sharing sessions regarding the Indigenous Early Learning and Child Care (IELCC) Framework and Quality Improvement Plan (QIP) initiatives.
• Conduct surveys with beneficiaries in person and over the telephone.
• Independently follow up with beneficiaries to maximize survey participation.
• Maintain accurate and confidential survey records.
• Enter and organize survey data as required.
• Communicate professionally and respectfully with community members and stakeholders.
• Assist with logistical planning and coordination related to community visits.
• Prepare reports and summaries as requested.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.


QUALIFICATIONS

• Must be a current student or eligible for summer student employment.
• Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.
• Comfortable engaging with community members in a respectful and culturally appropriate manner.
• Strong organizational and time-management skills.
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and handle sensitive information.
• Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications.
• Willingness and ability to travel extensively throughout the Gwich'in Settlement Area.
• Valid Class 5 Driver's Licence is considered a strong asset.
• Knowledge of Gwich'in communities, culture, and traditions is considered an asset.
• Previous experience conducting surveys, community outreach, or customer service is considered an asset.
• First Aid/CPR certification is considered an asset.


WORKING CONDITIONS

• Frequent travel to Gwich'in communities.
• Some evening and weekend work may be required.
• Independent work in community settings and beneficiaries' homes.
• Travel by air and vehicle throughout the Gwich'in Settlement Area.
