The Gwich'in Tribal Council (GTC), located in lnuvik, Northwest Territories, is seeking a candidate for the role of Manager, Wellness Support

Reporting to the Director, Health and Wellness, the Manager of Wellness Support is responsible to manage implementation of wellness support programs for Participants of the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement (GCLCA) in accordance with Gwich’in Tribal Council (GTC) mandates, priorities and annual workplans.

The Manager oversees activities and staff in multiple service areas including Resolution Health Support Program Coordinator, Elders Wellness Coordinator and Youth Wellness Coordinator.

SCOPE

·       Contributes to planning and design and manages implementation of targeted wellness support programming.

·        Accountable for the management of multiple GTC Wellness Support programs including certain financial and human resources responsibilities.

·        Aids and informs efforts within Gwich’in Tribal Council to improve health and social services system performance in cultural safety and cultural continuity in care.

·        Provides management and brings expertise to the delivery of quality wellness support services.

·      Advise the Director, Health and Wellness services regarding health services delivery, quality assurance plans, outcomes, opportunities, and risks,Including,incidents impacting or  potentially affecting the safety and wellbeing of participants and the integrity of GTC Health and Wellness department.

·        Close collaboration with service users, related Health and Wellness program areas, other GTC departments and external partners including Government of the Northwest Territories, Northwest Territories Health and Social Services Authority, or Government of Canada.

·        Manages service areas to ensure programs, include meaningful community participation and stewardship, are effective and sustainable, and reflect Gwich’in values.

·        Provides operational oversight of the implementation of projects and programs, including but not limited to wellness supports campaigns, behavior change and incentive programs, service delivery, and implementation of third-party funded projects.

·        Supervises and manages Wellness Support staff.

·        Introduces work plans and priorities for staff in line with division and organizational priorities and frameworks.

·        Prepares, monitors, and reports on a budget sourced from core and third-party funding.

·        Builds a safe and respectful workplace for everyone.

 KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

·        Knowledge of the overall Gwich’in Tribal Council’s mandate, goals and objectives and the political and social environment in which GTC programs and services are offered.

·        Understanding of the Gwich’in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement.

·        Knowledge or appreciation for Gwich’in culture, language, and lands.

·        Experience in community development in health and wellness.

·        Knowledge of colonial impacts on health outcomes for Indigenous peoples.

·        Understanding of the NWT health and social services system, including opportunities and challenges for Gwich’in communities and Participants.

·        Understanding of promotion and prevention programs as they relate to wellness, wise practices, and the social determinants of health.

·        Knowledge of, and ability to use, MS Office suite of applications (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook), Operating Systems, Email, and Internet programs.

·        Knowledge and experience in individual counselling and group facilitation would be an asset.

·        Ability to effectively supervise, motivate, retain, and develop staff.

·        Ability to work in cross-cultural and team environments.

QUALIFICATIONS

·        Bachelor’s Degree in a Health, Social Sciences, or related field and/or significant experience in the delivery and coordination of health or social service programs or related programming.

·        A combination of education/experience will be considered, including experience in coordination, supervision of staff, program management, monitoring and evaluation, and training others.

·        A valid class 5 driver’s license is also required.

·        Gwich’in Participants are encouraged to apply and will receive special consideration

COMPENSATION

A competitive compensation plan will accompany the successful candidate including a comprehensive benefit plan.

Preference may be given to candidates who are Gwich'in Participants and have experience working in the non-profit or public sectors or in an Indigenous Government/Organization, preferably in a northern context.
