  • Full-time - 37.5 hours weekly, 1950 hours/year
  • Monday to Friday
  • Day Shifts: 9:00 am until 5:00 pm (flexible)
  • Annual salary: $50,000 - $55,000, depending on experience
  • There will be a three-month probationary period

Initiatives for Just Communities (IJC) is a non-profit, charitable organization that operates four community justice programs: El'dad Ranch, Touchstone, Open Circle, and CoSA. These programs support people with intellectual disabilities, Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorder (FASD), and those who are currently, or have been previously, incarcerated. IJC is committed to restorative justice practices, which honour the community and foster a sense of belonging.

The Position 

We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Accounting Analyst to join our Finance team. This role is ideal for someone who thrives in a fast-paced environment and is committed to financial accuracy, timely reporting, and continuous improvement.

What you will do


  • Analyze financial data and prepare internal and external reports, ensuring deadlines are met. 
  • Assist with month-end and year-end closing processes
  • Reconcile accounts and maintain accurate financial records. 
  • Prepare GST, PST, and T3010 filings
  • Support budgeting and forecasting activities. 
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to improve financial procedures. 
  • Ensure compliance with internal policies and external regulations. 
  • Assist with accounts payable and receivable, including preparing allocation journal entries. 
  • Support the year-end audit process
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 

Required

  • Bachelor's degree in Business Administration, Accounting, Finance, or a related field, plus a minimum of 3 years of relevant work experience. A combination of a 2-year diploma in a related field and equivalent experience may also be considered. 
  • Solid understanding of accrual accounting is required. 
  • Prior experience with balance sheet reconciliations and variance analysis is required.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills.
  • Excellent time management and multitasking abilities. 
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and accounting software.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills, with the ability to build strong working relationships.
  • Excellent verbal communication skills with the ability to articulate in a clear and effective manner.
  • Excellent written communication skills with the ability to draft correspondence in a clear and effective manner.
  • Demonstrate cultural competence and understanding of diversity, inclusivity, and equity issues. This includes respecting and valuing different cultural backgrounds, beliefs, and identities to ensure equitable access to services for all clients.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality, including adhering to PHIA and FIPPA. 
  • Ability to work under pressure and handle work-related stress. 
  • Participation in training opportunities and willingness to learn and adapt to new processes or procedures. 

Assets

  • Experience in not-for-profit accounting is considered a strong asset. 

Conditions of Employment


  • The successful applicant must maintain legal eligibility to work in Canada. If the successful applicant possesses a work permit, it is their responsibility to ensure the permit remains valid.
  • Satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Search.
  • Successful completion of MSDs certification and any other compulsory safety courses.
  • Satisfactory work references.
