Employment Type: Shift-based (as per Collective Agreement)
Position Summary
The Maintenance Tower Operator (Terminal Maintenance Technician) is responsible for performing a wide range of maintenance, operational, and equipment-handling duties to support safe and efficient terminal operations. This role involves hands-on work across mechanical systems, equipment operation, and general facility maintenance. The successful candidate will be a versatile, safety-focused individual with strong technical skills and the ability to work in a dynamic marine terminal environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Tie up and let go of vessels as required.
- Operate and maintain the vehicle transfer bridge and associated systems.
- Operate
and perform general maintenance on:
- Kalmar Yard Tractor
- Yard tractors
- Forklifts
- Zoom boom
- John Deere farm tractor and associated attachments
- Company vehicles
- Set up and uncouple drop trailers as required.
- Operate a minibus to shuttle passengers on and off vessels when required.
- Load and unload freight to and from delivery trailers.
- Organize and maintain warehouse storage areas.
- Perform general maintenance of terminal buildings and grounds, including minor plumbing, carpentry, welding, and repairs.
- Complete daily maintenance checklists and maintain accurate maintenance records for the Digby Terminal.
- Assist third-party contractors as required.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications & Requirements
Required:
- Valid driver’s license with a clean driver’s abstract.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to manage conflict professionally.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Willingness
to complete required training provided by the company, including:
- WHMIS
- Accessibility Training
- Workplace Harassment & Violence Prevention Training
Assets (Preferred):
- Class 1 driver’s license.
- Experience in the marine industry.
- Experience operating heavy equipment or performing general mechanical maintenance.
Working Conditions
- Shift work in accordance with the Collective Agreement.
- Work is performed both indoors and outdoors in varying weather conditions (hot and cold).
- The position requires prolonged standing and walking, with regular kneeling and moderate lifting.
- Safety-conscious behavior is required at all times in a busy terminal environment.
