Job Title: Server

Department: Front of the House

Reports To: Service Captain

FLSA Status: Non-Exempt

Compensation: $10.70 per hour plus tips


Overview: The primary responsibility of the Server is to deliver exemplary table service, ensuring accurate order taking, prompt food and beverage delivery, and that all guests at Nolan’s at the Canandaigua Country Club and/or Nolan’s on Canandaigua Lake enjoy an outstanding dining experience.


Key Responsibilities include the following, with other duties assigned as necessary. Reasonable accommodations will be provided to enable individuals with disabilities to perform these essential functions. 


  • Adheres to and promotes the Nolan’s Way.
  • Greet guests warmly, present menus, and provide detailed information about menu items, specials, and promotions.
  • Take accurate food and beverage orders, relay them promptly to the kitchen or bar, and ensure timely delivery to guests.
  • Utilizes POS system to enter food and beverage orders accurately and calculates guest bills.
  • Anticipate guest needs and provide attentive, personalized service to ensure a positive dining experience.
  • Check in with guests throughout their meal to ensure satisfaction and quickly address any concerns or special requests.
  • Maintain cleanliness and organization of tables, service areas, and the dining room before, during, and after service.
  • Process payments accurately and efficiently, handle cash and credit transactions, and return change or receipts as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with kitchen and bar staff to ensure orders are prepared correctly and served promptly.
  • Adhere to all health, safety, and sanitation guidelines to maintain a safe and welcoming environment.
  • Demonstrate professionalism, a positive attitude, and excellent communication skills with guests and team members.
  • Garnishes and decorates dishes in preparation for service.
  • Completes assigned opening and closing side work to ensure readiness and efficiency of dining room, kitchen, and service stations during meal periods.
  • Applies comprehensive knowledge of the menu, bar offerings, restaurant hours, table numbers, and payment options.
  • Employs suggestive selling techniques to promote specials, menu items, desserts, and other offerings.
  • Follows the policies and procedures established by Nolan’s at the conclusion of each shift.
  • Communicates all concerns to management immediately, including but not limited to those related to health, sanitation, staff, inventory, and guest satisfaction.
  • Provides cross-service and assist team members as required.
  • Wear full-length black trousers, a black shirt, and slip-resistant footwear.
  • Understands and complies with all health, sanitation, and alcohol standard processes and procedures.
  • Flexibility to work varying shifts from time to time.
  • Attend and complete all required training.

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential skill satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/ or ability required.


Language Ability:

Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.  Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of an organization.


Math Ability:

Ability to calculate figures and amounts such as discounts, interest, commissions, proportions, percentages, area, circumference and volume. Ability to apply concepts of basic algebra and geometry.


Reasoning Ability: 

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram or schedule form.


Work Environment:

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. 


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly exposed to outdoor weather conditions; extreme cold (non-weather) and extreme heat (non-weather). The employee is frequently exposed to work near moving mechanical parts and fumes or airborne particles. The employee is exposed to wet or humid conditions (non-weather); work in high, precarious places; risk of electrical shock and vibration.


The noise level in the work environment is usually loud.


Health and Safety:

According to the Department of Health, employees are to maintain a high degree of personal cleanliness and are to conform with good hygiene practices when working in food service establishments.  In addition, employees are to wash their hands and exposed areas of arms thoroughly with soap and water before starting work, and as often as may be necessary.  Employees are to keep their fingernails clean and neatly trimmed as well as wear slip resistant shoes.  All persons within a food service establishment who work in areas where food is prepared are to use hats, caps, or hair nets as restraints which minimize hair contact with food and food-contact surfaces.


Technology:

Ability to learn how to use or have knowledge of a touch screen computer system.

The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job. 


While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk; use hands; reach with hands and arms and talk or hear. The employee is regularly required to stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and taste or smell. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must frequently lift, move and/ or balance up to 75 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, peripheral vision, depth perception and ability to adjust focus.


Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or general education degree (GED)
  • Minimum of 1 year of experience as a server or in a similar role
  • Excellent communication and customer service skills
  • Ability to multitask and handle a high-volume workload
  • Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
