Job Description:

We are seeking a reliable and experienced Shift Supervisor to join our team and oversee the daily operation of our nonprofit cafe in Arlington Heights. The Shift Supervisor will be responsible for managing and leading a team of employees and volunteers, ensuring that all tasks are completed efficiently and to the highest standards, and providing excellent customer service. The successful candidate will have strong leadership and communication skills and be able to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment. Gerry’s Cafe employs 39 adults with intellectual and developmental disabilities. We are looking for a shift leader with understanding, acceptance and a willingness to train, guide and oversee our unique workforce.

Responsibilities:

Oversee the daily operation of the cafe, including managing and leading employees and volunteers

Leading the day to day operations of the café from opening and closing tasks to guest flow and interaction.

Facilitate all employee related and volunteer needs

Ensure that tasks are completed efficiently and to the highest standards, including maintaining a clean and organized cafe and adhering to safety protocols

Provide excellent customer service, including assisting customers with questions and needs and handling complaints and concerns

Monitor and maintain inventory levels, including ordering and restocking as needed

Complete daily financial and operational tasks

Other duties as assigned by the assistant manager and/or general manager

Qualifications:

Minimum of 1 year of experience as a shift leader or in a leadership role

Strong leadership and communication skills

Ability to multitask and handle a high-volume workload

Stand, walk, talk and hear for long periods of time

Obtain Servsafe Certification course & acquire Manager Food Card

Proper working knowledge of general food and beverage production

Proficiency with computer systems and software

Weekend shifts required

Ability to lift 0-50 lbs 

Reliable transportation

Demonstrated ability to work with adults with disabilities
