API 1169 Pipeline Inspector

Emerald Energy is seeking a highly experienced and certified API 1169 Pipeline Inspector to ensure the safe, efficient, and compliant construction, maintenance, and operation of pipeline projects. The API 1169 Pipeline Inspector will be responsible for overseeing all aspects of pipeline construction, including welding, coating, trenching, backfilling, and hydrostatic testing, to ensure strict adherence to API 1169 standards, federal regulations (e.g., DOT Part 192, 195), company policies, and project specifications. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of pipeline integrity, NDE methodologies, and environmental compliance.


Key Responsibilities:


Inspection and Oversight: Conduct daily inspections of pipeline construction

activities, including right-of-way preparation, stringing, bending, welding, coating,

lowering-in, backfilling, and hydrostatic testing.

Compliance Assurance: Ensure all work performed complies with API 1169,

company standards, project specifications, and all applicable local, state, and

federal regulations (e.g., PHMSA, OSHA, FERC).

Documentation and Reporting: Maintain accurate and detailed daily reports,

logs, and documentation of all inspection activities, including progress,

deficiencies, corrective actions, and safety observations. Prepare and submit

required forms and reports in a timely manner.

Quality Control: Verify the quality of materials, workmanship, and construction

methods. Oversee welding procedures, NDE results, coating application, and pipe

handling to prevent damage and ensure long-term integrity.

Problem Resolution: Identify non-conformances, deviations, and potential issues

on-site. Work collaboratively with contractors, engineers, and project

management to implement effective corrective actions and solutions.

Safety Adherence: Promote and enforce a strong safety culture on the job site.

Ensure all personnel adhere to safety protocols, use appropriate PPE, and follow

safe work practices. Participate in safety meetings and incident investigations as

required.

Environmental Stewardship: Monitor construction activities to ensure

compliance with environmental regulations and permits. Oversee erosion control

measures, spill prevention, and restoration efforts.

Communication: Serve as a primary point of contact for quality and compliance

matters on site. Communicate effectively with project managers, engineers,

contractors, and regulatory agencies.

Blueprint and Specification Interpretation: Interpret engineering drawings,

specifications, and procedures to ensure accurate implementation in the field.

Testing Witnessing: Witness and verify critical tests, including hydrostatic tests,

pressure tests, and integrity tests, ensuring proper procedures are followed and

results are accurately recorded.


Qualifications:


Certification: Current and valid API 1169 Pipeline Inspector certification is

mandatory.

Experience: Minimum of 2 years of direct experience in pipeline inspection,

construction, or a related field.

Knowledge: Comprehensive knowledge of pipeline construction techniques,

welding processes (e.g., API 1104), NDE methods (UT, RT, MT, PT), coating

systems, pipeline safety regulations (e.g., 49 CFR Part 192 and 195), and

environmental compliance.

Technical Skills: Ability to read and interpret complex engineering drawings,

specifications, and project documents. Proficient in using inspection tools and

equipment.

Communication Skills: Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with

the ability to prepare clear, concise reports and communicate technical

information effectively to diverse audiences.

Computer Proficiency: Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook,

Gmail) and comfortable with digital reporting systems.

Problem-Solving: Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to

make sound decisions under pressure.

Independence: Ability to work independently with minimal supervision while also

being a strong team player.

Travel: Willingness to travel and work irregular hours in remote locations, often in

challenging weather conditions.

Education: High school diploma or equivalent required. Technical degree or

higher education in a related field (e.g., Construction Management) preferred.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.


Work Environment:


The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. This position primarily works outdoors at active construction sites in all weather conditions. The employee may be exposed to loud noises, moving mechanical parts, heavy equipment, and various chemicals. Safety precautions and adherence to PPE requirements are mandatory.
