DIRECT CARE (HOMECARE)
Direct Care Job Description:
The Direct Care Staff provides supervisory and hands-on support for consumers. Direct Care Staff employees may work for more than one consumer. Duties may vary from consumer to consumer and will be directed by the consumer and/or the Supervisor. Direct Care Staff employees are supervised by the Supervisor. This position requires someone who is highly ethical, self-motivated and detail oriented. Primary Responsibilities:
• Provides supervision and safeguards for consumers as needed.
• Performs such household chores as shopping, laundry, or cleaning the consumer’s apartment or bedroom; care for and maintain adaptive equipment. Supports consumers in engaging in social and community activities, as requested by the consumer, and directed by the Supervisor; support consumers in personal activities at home or away from home as requested and directed.
AS needed, sets limits and redirects consumer.
• Completes written notes, logs and other communication materials as assigned. May provide hands on care including:
• Assistance with bathing/showering, personal grooming, and in dressing and undressing.
• Help with bowel/bladder care, including suppository insertion and bowel care, and changing urinary devices, such as leg bags or colostomy bags.
• Help with meal preparation and eating; ensure that consumers follow nutritional guidelines of medical clinician (if no specific requirements or direction, that consumers are offered support to make healthy food choices).
• As directed, assist consumer to take medication at scheduled times; if working at MAP site, ensure compliance with all MAP requirements and agency MAP policies.
• Help with transfers in or out of bed, wheelchair, or bathtub; assist with range of motion exercises.
