Position Title: Job Search Assistant (Summer Positions)
Reports To: Manager, YMCA Nova Scotia Works
Position Status: Summer Employment (8–10 weeks)
Compensation: $18.00/hour
Start Date: 2026-06-29
Location: Halifax and Dartmouth Locations (NS Works)

The Opportunity

The YMCA provides employment support services to both job seekers and employers. We provide one-to-one and group services including needs assessments, career planning, job search support, and job development services.

Reporting to the Manager, the Job Search Assistant supports youth ages 13–16 in learning about career development through the Head Start program. The Job Search Assistant will also help job seekers who come into the resource centres for services.

Responsibilities

  • Work closely with Nova Scotia Works staff to learn about the day-to-day operations of NS Works
  • Work in the resource centre, signing clients in, printing jobs for the job board, and helping clients with faxing, photocopying, scanning, and computer use
  • Respond to incoming phone calls and online inquiries
  • Assist clients with updating resumes, online job searching, and job applications
  • Review Head Start applications for the summer job search program
  • Select youth participants and ensure their paperwork is completed and up to date
  • Work with the Head Start Coordinator to ensure all equipment is ready for virtual training
  • Assist with the facilitation of Head Start materials
  • Provide supervision and guidance to youth attending the job search camp

Qualifications & Skills

  • Criminal Record and Vulnerable Sector Check (if over 18), with the ability to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check/Vulnerable Sector Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and proof of First Aid and CPR training
  • This is a Canada Summer Jobs-funded position. Youth between the ages of 15–30 are eligible to apply.
