In partnership with the Ministry of Children and Family Development (MCFD), we are expanding our specialized group home in Parksville to support individuals with limited mobility. We’re seeking Health Care Support Workers (HCSWs) to provide compassionate, high-quality care in a homelike setting—helping people live with dignity and independence while creating moments of comfort, connection, and joy.
The Role
As a Health Care Support Worker, you’ll work directly in a live-in group home setting, supporting individuals with limited mobility in both their daily care and community participation.
Guided by the Program Manager and working closely with a strong team, you will:
-Provide personal care, lifts, transfers, and health support for individuals with mobility needs
-Operate an adapted wheelchair-accessible van for safe community access
-Support individuals with daily living activities, recreation, and skill development
-Safely administer, monitor, and record medications according to established protocols
-Apply positive behavioural intervention strategies, recognizing behaviour as communication
-Respond to challenging situations using crisis intervention and risk management strategies
-Maintain a clean, safe, and welcoming home environment, reporting safety issues promptly
-Build strong, respectful relationships with supported individuals, families, and colleagues
This role requires a balance of compassion, clinical skill, and professionalism. You will be a steady presence in the home, helping individuals feel safe, empowered, and cared for.
What you bring
-Preferred formal education (Diploma or Degree, CSW, RCA, SIVA etc.) and/or work experience with persons with diverse-abilities and/or other relevant experience.
-Excellent interpersonal behaviour and communication skills.
-A genuine desire and ability to support individuals with diverse-abilities, promoting dignity, independence, individuality.
-Ability to work independently in a high stress environment.
-Must be in good health with the physical ability to carry out the duties of the position and shift responsibilities.
Requirements
-Valid BC Driver's License, and willingness to obtain a Class 4 within three months.
-RCMP Criminal Record Check & MCFD Hub Screening (employer facilitated).
-First Aid and CPR, Food Safe Level 1.
-3 References (including one from your most recent employer).
-Immunization record, TB Screen, and Physician's Declaration.
