Position Title: Jordan’s Principle Child Resource Navigator
Department: Health & Wellness
Reports To: Manager, Health & Wellness
Location: Remote (Work-from-Home) – Gwich’in Settlement Area, Northwest Territories, or Yukon
Employment Type: Full-Time, Term (Project-Based) until March 31, 2027

PURPOSE
Reporting to the Health & Wellness leadership team, the Jordan’s Principle Child Resource Navigator strengthens child, youth, and family wellness systems by improving how services and supports are identified, tracked, and accessed across regions and sectors. This role works with the Gwich’in Tribal Council Health & Wellness Department to provide systems-focused support to frontline staff, rather than direct service to families.
The Navigator researches, organizes, and maintains up‑to‑date information on programs, services, and emerging opportunities, enabling staff to make timely, informed referrals. Grounded in Gwich’in values and children’s inherent rights, the role ensures accurate, culturally grounded resource information is available to support the wellness, healing, and growth of Gwich’in children and youth.

RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Research and maintain a current inventory of programs, services, and supports for children, youth, and families, including health, mental wellness, education, recreation, cultural programming, disability supports, respite, prevention, and housing-related services.
  • Track eligibility criteria, referral pathways, waitlists, application processes, contact information, and service updates across the Gwich’in Settlement Area, Northwest Territories, Yukon, and other jurisdictions.
  • Monitor new, emerging, and time-limited opportunities at community, territorial, national, and international levels and share relevant information with Health & Wellness staff.
  • Support frontline staff by preparing service comparisons, resource summaries, and simple referral pathway guides for complex situations.
  • Build and maintain working relationships with service providers, agencies, Indigenous organizations, governments, and non-profits to obtain up-to-date program information.
  • Identify service gaps, access barriers, and emerging trends affecting children and youth and provide recommendations to inform program planning and development.
  • Maintain organized and confidential resource databases, tracking tools, briefing notes, and written summaries to support reporting, funding applications, and system improvement.
  • Prepare internal resource guides, updates, and briefing materials for the Health & Wellness team.
  • Carry out related duties that strengthen child, youth, and family wellness systems and service coordination
  • Additional responsibilities as required

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Post-secondary diploma or degree in Social Work, Child & Youth Care, Education, Indigenous Studies, Health, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • Equivalent combinations of relevant training, lived experience, and strong systems knowledge will be considered.
  • Experience working in or alongside child, youth, family, health, or social service systems.
  • Experience working with First Nations or Indigenous organizations is a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of service systems supporting children, youth, and families 
  • Understanding of children’s rights frameworks, including Jordan’s Principle 
  • Familiarity with culturally grounded, community-based wellness approaches 
  • Strong research and information‑synthesis skills 
  • Ability to work independently in a remote environment 
  • Cultural awareness and respect for Gwich’in values 
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and shared databases
  • Strong communication skills and ability to work independently.
  • Access to a reliable high-speed internet, computer and a cell phone
