COMMUNITY LANGUAGE COORDINATOR - Inuvik F/T (37.5 hours per week)
The Gwich'in Tribal Council (GTC), situated in Inuvik, Northwest Territories, is currently seeking a qualified candidate to fulfill the position of Community Language Coordinator.
Reporting to the Language Revitalization Specialist, the Community Language Coordinator is responsible for developing and delivering Gwich’in language programs using the latest revitalization approaches to meet current and future needs of participants and the GTC language department. This role involves strategic planning, program development, community engagement, and resource creation to support language learning and revitalization initiatives within the Gwich'in community.
CORE RESPONSIBILITIESThe Core Responsibilities of this position include, but are not limited to:
Strategic Planning
· Plan and deliver language programs and services tailored to community needs.
· Collaborate with community partners, Elders, language instructors, and other stakeholders.
· Establish and lead community language committees and actively participate in regional committee.
· Contribute to the development of community language plans.
Program Delivery
· Implement language programs and curriculum in collaboration with language instructors and the GTC language department.
· Provide ongoing support for program administration and delivery.
· Coordinate community-based language workshops and gatherings.
Partnerships
· Build and maintain strong relationships with community partners, schools, and organizations.
· Provide support to language instructors.
· Liaise with other Community Language Coordinators, Language Revitalization Specialist and Gwich’in Curriculum Coordinator.
Language Promotion & Education
· Promote Gwich'in language use in homes, families, schools, and communities.
· Increase access to language learning opportunities and immersion programs for all ages.
· Coordinate community-based language activities to foster intergenerational language transfer.

QUALIFICATIONS
The qualifications required for this position include:
· Preferred two years of experience in language revitalization, including program development, delivery, and resource creation.
· Strong understanding of the Gwich'in Comprehensive Land Claim Agreement.
· Excellent communication, interpersonal, and cross-cultural communication skills.
· Class 5 driver's license.
· Fluency in the Gwich'in language is a significant asset.
· Experience working with Indigenous communities and organizations.

This position reports to the Language Revitalization Specialist.
COMPENSATION

Preference will be given to candidates who are Gwich'in Participants and have experience working in the non-profit or public sectors or in an Indigenous Government/Organization, preferably in a northern context.
