Reporting to the Exploration Manager, the Field Geology Technician will assist project managers during exploration work. This work includes diamond drilling, prospecting, mapping, stripping, geophysical activities, and all other related tasks. The work takes place on all Gold Fields properties, and the technician may be based at the Windfall site, in Lebel-sur-Quévillon, or at any other facilities located near the work sites in the Northern Quebec region. The technician will mainly work on a 15-day work schedule followed by 13 days off. Transportation, accommodation, and meals are provided.
Duties and responsibilities
•Prepare access routes and sites for diamond drilling (marking and cutting wood);
•Set up drilling sites (surveying);
•Conduct environmental monitoring of drills (inspections before, during, and after);
•Monitor various excavation and deforestation contractors;
•Assist the geologist in the field and participate in geological, geochemical, and geophysical surveys in the field;
•Ensure the cleaning and sampling of geological trenches (rock saw) during stripping work;
•Provide logistical support to the project manager, maintain various equipment, and purchase and manage exploration equipment;
•Plan and request bids;
•Work in the core library: Handle, measure, and sample drill core boxes;
•Prepare sample shipments;
•Report any situation that could affect work to your supervisor and share any suggestions for improvement;
•Comply with health, safety, and environmental policies and rules at all times;
•Perform any other tasks related to the field geology technician position that are relevant to the success of the project.
Qualifications
•College diploma (DEC) in mineral technology - geology option, (DEC) in forestry or relevant experience may be considered;
•One (1) to three (3) years of experience in mineral exploration (an asset).
Technical skills
•Knowledge of Microsoft Office software (Word, Excel, Access, etc.);
•Ability to use ArcGIS software (an asset);
•Training in manual logging (an asset);
•Ability to use surveying tools (an asset);
•Good knowledge of regulations on sustainable management of state-owned forests (RADF) and regulations on the management of activities based on their environmental impact (REAFIE).
