Reporting to the Exploration Manager, the Field Geology Technician will assist project managers during exploration work. This work includes diamond drilling, prospecting, mapping, stripping, geophysical activities, and all other related tasks. Work takes place across all Gold Fields properties, and the technician may be based at the Windfall site, in Lebel-sur-Quévillon, or at any other facilities located near the work sites in the Nord-du-Québec region. The technician will primarily work on a schedule of 15 days on, followed by 13 days off. Transportation, lodging, and meals are provided.
Duties and responsibilities
• Prepare access routes and sites for diamond drilling (marking and cutting trees);
• Set up drilling sites (surveying);
• Conduct environmental monitoring of drilling operations (inspections before, during, and after);
• Supervise various excavation and clearing contractors;
• Assist the geologist in the field and participate in geological, geochemical, and geophysical surveys;
• Ensure the cleaning and sampling of geological trenches (rock saw) during stripping operations;
• Provide logistical support to the project manager, maintain various equipment, and purchase and manage exploration supplies;
• Plan and prepare requests for proposals;
• Work in the core library: Handle, measure, and sample drill core boxes;
• Prepare sample shipments;
• Report to your supervisor any situation that could affect work and share any suggestions for improvement;
• Comply at all times with health, safety, and environmental policies and rules;
• Perform any other tasks related to the field geology technician position that are relevant to the success of the project.
