POSITION SUMMARY

Join TNDC as a Labourer and play an important role in supporting construction projects in Northern British Columbia. In this hands-on position, you will assist with a variety of tasks that help keep projects running safely, efficiently, and to a high standard. From supporting skilled tradespeople and preparing work areas to operating tools and equipment, you will be a key part of a hardworking and collaborative team environment.

Working on a 14 days on / 14 days off rotational schedule with 12-hour workdays, this role includes daily fly-in/fly-out travel to the worksite from camp. You will contribute to a strong safety culture while building positive working relationships and supporting TNDC’s commitment to environmental responsibility, operational excellence, and the long-term success of the Tahltan Nation.

RESPONSIBILITIES

Reporting to the Supervisor or designate, responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

·         Perform general labour duties such as site preparation, material handling, digging, grading, and cleanup.

·         Fueling and monitoring generators or heaters safely.

·         Assisting with loading/unloading of supplies or manual labour.

·         Setting up barricades or signage in low-visibility or slippery areas.

·         Assist trades and equipment operators with construction, repairs, and installations.

·         Perform pre-shift trip safety inspections and complete daily equipment reports.

·         Load and unload materials, tools, and equipment.

·         Set up and dismantle temporary structures such as towers, barricades, and signage.

·         Operate small tools and equipment safely (e.g., compactors, saws, drills, or jackhammers).

·         Maintain a clean and organized work area; remove debris and waste materials as required.

·         Follow all TNDC and client site safety protocols, including proper use of PPE and participation in safety meetings.

·         Report unsafe conditions, incidents, or equipment defects to supervisors immediately.

·         Support site logistics, deliveries, and general maintenance as directed.

·         Participate in any other specified training as recommended.

·         Assist in general labour and other duties as required.

·         Attaching chokers or cables to felled trees so they can be moved (yarding) and cleaning up landing areas at logging sites.

·         Site Support: Assisting other workers at logging sites, which can include loading/unloading materials and maintaining equipment.

·         Work is conducted outdoors in all weather conditions, often in remote woodlands or rugged terrain.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

·         Previous construction or industrial labour experience preferred.

·         Experience working on remote or industrial projects is an asset.

·         Class 5 Driver’s Licence (or equivalent) preferred.

·         Certificate - Class 7N Driver's License.

·         Equipment knowledge is an asset.

·         Proven commitment to safety, health, and environmental standards.

·         Able to take direction, follow instructions, adapt to changing priorities and multi-task.

·         Strong work ethic with an ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

·         Strong oral and written communication skills.

·         A team player who works respectfully and cooperatively with others.

·         Level 3 First Aid certification required

 

Mentorship and Knowledge Sharing
Provide guidance, training, and mentorship to team members, especially local Tahltan workers, by sharing technical skills, safety practices, and industry knowledge in a respectful and culturally aware manner. Uphold Tahltan values and principles by fostering a work environment built on respect, teamwork, and mutual learning. Support the growth of the Tahltan workforce by helping build capacity, promoting safe and effective work practices, and ensuring that knowledge is passed on to strengthen both the team and the broader Tahltan community for the benefit of current and future generation.

 

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

·         Role requires the ability to safely perform physically demanding tasks such as lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling materials and equipment, in compliance with WorkSafeBC standards.

·         Ability to pass a mandatory pre-employment drug and alcohol test.

·         Willingness to sign an Oath of Confidentiality.

·         Work is primarily outdoors in varying weather conditions in a very remote setting.

·         Required to travel to and from site via daily helicopter transport.

·         Required to stay in camp accommodations while on rotation.
