Meadow Park Chatham is a fully accredited long term care home in Chatham, Ontario and serves 99 residents. Chatham is the urban centre of Chatham-Kent, a large municipality in Southwestern Ontario located between Windsor (approximately 80 km to the west) and London (approximately 115 km to the east). It is known for its fertile farmland, a diverse economy of manufacturing and agriculture, and rich history, including its role in the Underground Railroad.
Join our team as an Assistant Cook!
Under the direction of the Culinary Manager, this role focuses primarily on meal preparation, food safety, and adherence to legislative and facility standards. Key duties include cooking according to recipes and menus, conforming to Public Health and legislative standards for food handling, reporting resident condition changes, accurate documentation, participating in continuous quality improvement (CQI), ongoing education, and promoting wellness. This role also involves menu planning input, assisting with meal service timing, safe use of chemicals (WHMIS), efficient use of resources, and strict adherence to occupational health and safety regulations, including the Ontario Occupational Health and Safety Act.
We are looking for the following qualifications and traits:
Must have a successfully completed or are enrolled in a Food Service Worker program at a established under the Ontario Colleges of Applied Arts and Technology Act, 2002 or a Food Service Worker program provided by a registered private career college and approved by the Superintendent of private career colleges under the Private Career Colleges Act, 2005; or holds a certificate of qualification in the trade of Cook, Institutional Cook or Assistant Cook as required under the Fixing Long Term Care Act, 2021 ss. 79 and Ontario Regulation 84/22 (1); or institutional, health care, restaurant, or hospitality cooking experience to adequately fulfill the role.
Must have completed the food handler training program, provided by Public Health, under the Health Protection and Promotion Act.
Cooking experience in a Long Term Care an asset
Must demonstrate an active interest in ongoing education
Ability to understand oral and written instructions
