Social Enterprise for Canada (SEC) is a people-centered, agile, and innovatively responsive not-for-profit Ontario corporation with charitable status serving York Region, Simcoe and surrounding areas. We focus on identifying and implementing innovative and collaborative solutions to pressing issues in order to contribute toward forging a society in which everyone belongs and is empowered to contribute. SEC’s programs focus on families, children, and newcomers, serving over 95,000 clients annually through programs such as Foreign Credential Recognition Services, Supervised Access, Welcome Centre Immigrant Services-Newmarket, EarlyOn Child & Family Centres and several Before & After School and Licensed Childcare Programs.

SEC holds a single share of Social Enterprise Canada Inc., a Canadian for-profit corporation that currently operates Bridge Translations and Bridge Solutions.

SEC is seeking a Volunteer Board Member with a strong background in financial management. This is an excellent opportunity for an individual with expertise in finance to contribute to a meaningful cause and make a significant impact in our community. Key Responsibilities

Provide financial guidance oversight and ensure the fiscal health of the organization.

Assist in the development and monitoring of the annual budget.

Assist and advise in the development of finance related policies and procedures.

Review and approve financial statements, audit reports, and significant financial decisions.

Advise on financial strategy, including investment policies, fundraising strategies, and long-term financial planning.

Participate in board meetings and contribute to strategic planning and decision-making.

Collaborate with other board members to support the organization’s mission and goals.

Help to establish and serve on relevant committees as needed (e.g., Finance Committee, Audit Committee).


Qualifications

Certified Public Accountant (CPA) or actively pursuing CPA certification.

Strong background in financial management, accounting, and budgeting.

Experience in the nonprofit sector is highly appreciated. Previous experience with a non-profit and/or immigrant services agency is an asset. 

Knowledge of nonprofit financial reporting standards and regulations.

Excellent analytical, organizational, and communication skills.

Commitment to SEC’s mission, vision and values of. 

Previous board experience is a plus, but not required.


Time Commitment

Attend board meetings (occur every 6 weeks in person or virtually).

Participate in committee meetings as needed.
