Volunteer Title: Health Management Staff

Location: John W. Lindsay YMCA

The Opportunity

The Health Management department offers safe, accessible, and evidence-based classes for individuals living with chronic disease and/or mobility concerns. We are looking for volunteers to help teach MoveWell on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 10:00 - 11:00am, Active for Life on Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 1:30 - 2:30pm, and Abilities in Motion on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1:00 - 3:00pm. We encourage volunteers to commit to a minimum of one (1) class time slot per week.

Responsibilities

• Arrive 10 minutes before class starts to help set up and grab the necessary equipment 
  
• Assist members with their individual and group exercise programs; this could include assistance with using equipment, equipment set up or providing new exercise variations and/or modifications
• Demonstrate and eventually lead group exercise classes
• Provide a positive environment for all participants
• Ensure equipment is wiped down and put back after use
• Reports all incidents no matter how minor
• Ensure safety and security of the group by enforcing rules and regulations
• Understand emergency protocols, reporting of accidents, and evacuation procedures
• Uphold the core values of the YMCA
• Abide by the YMCA Child Protection Policies and Procedures

Please note that the successful volunteer is required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check, clear Child Abuse Registry Check, and valid First Aid and CPR training. YMCA will cover the cost of your background check if you do not have one or need an updated check. We do not accept checks older than six (6) months from hire date. All YMCA volunteers are required to attend YMCA Child Safeguarding Training.
