THE POSITION

The Night Auditor is responsible for overseeing front desk operations during the overnight shift while ensuring accurate financial reconciliation and exceptional guest service. This role includes completing nightly audits, processing and balancing guest accounts, reconciling payments and transactions, and preparing daily operational reports. The Night Auditor also supports guest arrivals and inquiries, maintains health and safety standards, and serves as the primary point of contact for hotel operations overnight, ensuring a secure, efficient, and seamless guest experience in alignment with SoHo Hotel’s service standards.

 

This is a 12-month, full-time contract position for maternity leave coverage and requires on-site work five days per week at 318 Wellington Street West, Toronto, Ontario.

 

DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Oversee front desk operations during the overnight shift, ensuring smooth and efficient hotel operations.
  • Perform nightly audit procedures, including processing daily operational reports and reconciling all guest accounts and transactions.
  • Post charges, process payments, and investigate and resolve any discrepancies or out-of-balance accounts.
  • Balance cash, credit card, and ledger transactions in accordance with hotel policies.
  • Prepare and complete required audit and financial reports accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Handle guest arrivals, early departures, and walk-in reservations during the overnight shift.
  • Deliver exceptional guest service by responding promptly and professionally to guest inquiries, requests, and concerns.
  • Utilize upselling techniques to promote hotel suites and communicate Preferred Hotels membership benefits.
  • Maintain health and safety standards and ensure the security of guests, team members, and hotel property during the overnight shift.
  • Act as the primary point of contact and decision-maker for hotel operations overnight.
  • Communicate effectively with management and relevant departments regarding overnight activities and issues.
  • Adhere to hotel policies, procedures, and confidentiality standards at all times.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

 

QUALIFICATIONS & REQUIREMENTS:

  • Previous hotel experience or hospitality education required.
  • Ability to work overnight shifts (11:00 PM – 7:30 AM), including weekends and holidays.
  • Strong guest service orientation with a friendly and professional demeanor.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy, particularly in financial reconciliation.
  • Proven ability to problem-solve, multitask, and work independently.
  • Well-organized, reliable, and able to meet deadlines.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word and Excel); experience with hotel systems (e.g., Opera Cloud) is an asset.
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
  • Fluency in additional languages is an asset.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time.
