Position Summary
Reporting to the Youth Director, this position plays an integral role in providing a safe, welcoming, and engaging environment for children participating in YMCA Childminding and Day Camp programs. Childminding/Day Camp Workers are responsible for planning, leading, and implementing age-appropriate activities that promote children's physical, social, emotional, and cognitive development while ensuring the highest standards of safety and care.
This position requires flexibility to work a variety of shifts, including evenings, weekends, school holidays, and Day Camp programming based on operational needs.
Responsibilities
• Provide a safe, welcoming, inclusive, and nurturing environment for all children participating in YMCA Childminding and Day Camp programs.
• Plan, organize, and lead engaging age-appropriate activities including games, crafts, physical activities, and group experiences that promote healthy child development.
• Build positive relationships with children, parents, caregivers, volunteers, and fellow staff while delivering exceptional YMCA customer service.
• Supervise children at all times, ensuring their safety, well-being, and inclusion in accordance with YMCA Child Protection policies and procedures.
• Respond appropriately to incidents, injuries, emergencies, and behavioural concerns while following YMCA policies and reporting procedures.
• Maintain clean, organized, and safe program spaces, ensuring equipment and supplies are used appropriately and stored properly.
• Support Day Camp programming during school breaks and summer operations as required.
• Foster a collaborative and inclusive team environment while assisting with YMCA special events and family programming when needed.
• Ensure compliance with all YMCA policies, licensing requirements, Child Protection standards, and health and safety regulations.

Qualifications
• High School Diploma or equivalent; post-secondary education in Early Childhood Education, Recreation, Child and Youth Studies, Education, or a related field is considered an asset.
• Experience working with children in a childcare, camp, recreation, educational, or similar setting is preferred.
• Excellent interpersonal, communication, and relationship-building skills.
• Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks in a fast-paced environment.
• Demonstrated sound judgement, professionalism, integrity, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
• Ability to work independently while contributing positively within a team environment.
• Flexible availability, including evenings, weekends, school holidays, and Day Camp programming as operationally required.
• Current Standard First Aid and CPR certification is required.
• Note: Successful candidates will be required to provide a current and satisfactory Criminal Record Check with Vulnerable Sector Check, Child Abuse Registry Check, and proof of valid First Aid and CPR certification. Having these documents prepared for the interview is strongly recommended.
• Employees will be required to complete YMCA Child Protection Training.
