Supervisor of Community Relations
JOB SUMMARY
The position will provide support to community members in aligning their behaviour with the code of conduct. The Supervisor will be responsible for creating person-centered plans and communicating them to the Drop-In and Clothing team to build consistency and staff capacity.
KEY DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists management in the implementation of new policies and practices, implementing best practices, and maintaining the Mission, Vision and Values of the organization;
- As part of the Drop-In Management team, provide feedback on staff performance;
- Exemplify Siloam’s core values in all day-to-day activities;
- Coach the team of Drop-In and Clothing staff and train new employees on Restorative Justice practices with an aim to reduce suspension times and incidences;
- Facilitate Re-Entry circles using Restorative practice with all parties involved in the incident including community members or staff, and routinely include additional staff to build up their understanding and awareness of Restorative Justice practices;
- Responsible for creating person-centered plans and communicating them to the team;
- Manage the de-escalation budget including appropriate reporting of use of items;
- Incorporate a Housing-Focused approach and monitor the Behaviour Based approach;
- Review and complete all documentation for interventions and support to community members;
- Develop and maintain redirection resources available to community members and share this community calendar with the Drop-In team;
- Prepare and complete incident reports, daily logs, and other required documents and reports;
- Ensure the confidentiality and privacy of community members, staff and Siloam Mission at all times;
- Work, as a part of the Drop-In Management team to accomplish performance reviews, training, and development of the team members;
- Lead contact for all community programming
- Creating and Facilitation Educational work-shops for staff professional development.
- Maintain relationships with Group Facilitators for programming in Drop-In
- Maintain relationships with partner organizations in the sector to further collaboration;
- Provide professional and informative orientation of the Drop-In to Volunteers;
- Ensure Volunteers are treated with equality, respect, and dignity and support them to have a positive experience;
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE
- Post-secondary education in relevant social services or equivalent work experience;
- Experience and demonstrated ability to lead a team and work collaboratively as part of a team;
- 1 – 2 years of leadership experience preferred;
KNOWLEDGE/SKILLS/BEHAVIORS
- Able to work with a diverse staff team and promote inclusion and cultural awareness in the workplace;
- Good understanding of colonization and its impact on Indigenous peoples;
- Certificates in NVCI, ASIST, CPR First Aid, Mental Health First Aid; preferred Experience working with HIFIS4, is an asset;
- Demonstrated knowledge of Cultural Awareness, Anti-Oppressive Practice, Trauma Informed best practices;
- Experience using restorative justice practices;
- Knowledge of community resources for homelessness, health, mental health and substance use; and harm reduction
- Knowledge of Housing First Principles and housing resources;
- Ability to mitigate and respond to threats to safety and security of staff and community members;
- Ability to work within a harm reduction framework;
- Ability to communicate appropriate professional boundaries;
- Ability to lead a small team of volunteers
- Ability to work in a fast paced, high pressure environment, and strong ability to make quick decisions;
- Excellent interpersonal skills and the ability to form relationships;
- Excellent critical thinking and problem-solving skills
- Excellent written and oral communication skills;
- MS office and data entry skills;
RELATIONSHIP
Works closely with Drop-in Staff, Community Members, Volunteers and various other departments of Siloam Mission.
WORKING CONDITIONS
- Hours of work 80 Hours bi-weekly, Full Time Permanent
- Periodically lifting of up to 50lbs occasionally
- Work requires standing and walking for extended periods of time.
- Overtime may be offered when necessary.
- Work may involve going off-site with community members
- Hazardous conditions could potentially include unpredictable or risky behaviours from community members;
- This position is part of an on-call rotation
Workplace Health and Safety
The incumbent contributes to making the organization safe for clients and staff and recognizes the importance of reporting unsafe situations and participating in follow up reviews as a learning opportunity.
- Provides a safe environment by ensuring adherences to Workplace Safety and Health
- Regulations and Policies, Infection Control Guidelines, WHMIS and Safe Work Procedures. Immediately investigates and recommends corrective action on any unsafe acts, work conditions, incidents, near misses, injuries or illnesses.
- Demonstrates understanding of role and responsibilities in fire prevention and disaster preparedness and participates in safety and health training programs including the facility’s Fire, Disaster and Evacuation Plan.
- Supports an environment which avoids, prevents and corrects all activities or actions which may result in an adverse outcome in the delivery of services. Community Member safety is a standing item for all individual and departmental meetings.
