Tenant Liaison Worker

Maple Ridge/Pitt Meadows Community Services is currently seeking Tenant Liaison Worker to support the Cornerstone Youth Independent Living program within our Cornerstone Landing building, which also includes office space for Social Service programs.

ACCOUNTABILITIES

Builds and maintains supportive working relationships with youth tenants to promote engagement, belonging, and successful tenancies through regular connection, check ins and monthly meetings 
Gathers relevant information through observation, communication, and collaboration with youth tenants and service providers to assess needs, strengths, and potential risks related to housing stability 
Works with tenants to develop, implement, and review individualized tenancy goals (related to education, employment, life skills, wellness, and independent living) and informal support plans within program guidelines 
Provides practical tenancy education and skill development including understanding tenant rights and responsibilities, communication with housing providers, conflict resolution, and daily living routines 
Supports tenants to navigate challenges related to housing, relationships, wellness, and community integration 
Consulting with tenants and staff with matters pertaining to the Residential Tenancy Act
Being the point of contact for youth tenants on behalf of Community Services and BC Housing
Actively advocating for the youth residents at Cornerstone Landing and work with them in the development of self-advocacy skills. 
Liaise with other agencies, professionals, ministry staff and the community to support youth to maintain housing and make linkages that will help them move successfully into adulthood
Having the knowledge and awareness of current social concerns and youth issues, and as required attend professional development activities to remain informed regarding issues for multi-barriered youth
Providing guidance, advocacy, & referrals to appropriate services or resources such as medical, mental health, alcohol and drug treatment, life skills training, social assistance, schools, etc. 
Conducting and facilitating youth tenant meetings that are supported by Cornerstone Landing and its supporting agencies
Organizing activities in partnerships with other community agencies that include skills-building, community building, and social connections outcomes 
Maintaining all records and prepare reports on key issues and organized events as required


QUALIFICATIONS

     Education and Experience:
Diploma or degree in a related human / social service field
Minimum of two years’ experience working with youth and young adults experiencing mental health and substance use challenges and/or supportive/independent living environments
Minimum of two years’ experience working with affordable and emergency housing resources 

Additional Requirements:
  Criminal Record Check is required.
  Current First Aid and CPR Certificate.
  Valid and unrestricted Class 5 BC Driver’s License with access to a safe and reliable vehicle.
  Acceptable Driver’s Abstract (provided annually).
FoodSafe Certification is an asset
  Position requires Union Membership.


KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES
Familiarity with government and local community resources 
Demonstrates a clear ability to respond to crisis situations 
Excellent listening skills 
Ability to work independently and collaboratively as part of a team 
Excellent organizational, interpersonal, written, and oral communication skills
An advanced knowledge of case management principles. Must be able to keep excellent client records, both written and electronically
Demonstrated proactive approach to connecting and building relationships with youth experiencing multiple barriers and a familiarity with the challenges of homelessness
Knowledge and understanding of the Residential Tenancy Act 


Shift/Schedule/Hours per week: Temp FT- until the return of incumbent; 35 Hours Per Week, Tuesday to Saturday 11am-7pm
Expected Start Date: ASAP 
Wage/Salary: $29.17/hour 
Grid Level: 12
